Hi

Im in talks with the Dutch tent brand De Waard and i would be interested in your thoughts

Has anyone seen these tents etc. If we did stock these tents be aware they are not cheap but are mega strong and will last for years and years.

The shapes are basic but classic.

Regards

Gary Cross

Seen these a few times when we have been out camping, look very nice, fairly simple to put up but look heavy.

Their tent collection can be viewed here but its in Dutch so you may need Freebird to translate for you.

Saw them in Cornwall this year, came home looked on here discovered what they were and was disappointed to hear you can't get them in the uk.  Would definately be interested to know a bit more about them, costs etc.  Thought they wouldn't be cheap!!  Quite a few posts on here about them so I'm sure you would have a market.

Hi Garry

I think it would be suberb, I have seen these tents on sites quite often and they stand up to the weather, without so much as a wee flutter. At the moment they are only available on the continent, it would be good to see them in the flesh and have the option of bying them from yourselfs.
Can you give us some idea of pricing and post some pics of inside.

PS and soz for being off subject - I have badly bent an upright on my monty 6 2007(strong wind) how do I get a replacement and how much would I expect to pay??

Saw lots in France this year. They look great. OH works with someone who has one and he loves it. It would be great to be able to see them in this country, Claire

Been seeing them for years in France. I am currently interested in buying a large canvas family tent but not impressed with Cabanon designs. I have looked at the De Waard tents but most have very low sloping roof designs which will, of course, impact on internal head height....not too bad for a long weekend, but my need is for a tent for 2 - 4 week trips to mainland Europe with three kids and OH...I think I'd get fed up of the compromise after a week. However, seeing as there appear to be many supporters of canvas tents on this site I would think it would be at least worth researching some more. Any new designs in the offing or aren't they giving too much away at the moment?

Cheers

Nick

There seemed to be far more in France this year than previously. Maybe it was the sites we stayed on as we seemed to be surrounded by Dutch people wherever we went. (who all took no notice of my rubbish French and spoke perfect English to me). Claire

Same for me, loads in France, fantastic tents look really well made. OH thinks they're worth investing in...and the moths don't get out of her purse that often!

Gary,

I think it is a great idea if you start importing them.  I can't say that I want to spend massive amounts of money though, it might be an idea to have a look at other Continental brands also (for us with more modest expectations).   Hypertents caught my eye a while back.

Back to the De Waards, are we talking cabanon and Karsten prices?

You are to be congratulated on your forwards thinking, I am sure it will give you an edge over you competitors.

Regards,

Elegant Mess

Regarding the other thread that's running at the moment, these are the sexiest tents out there.

I have looked at these before and I like the design of these tents, quirky.

I also like the free standing canopy, gazebo thingy on their website... I'd have one of those in my garden

I'm not a fan of the traditional styling of the Cabanons etc (although I don't doubt their quality, far from it), but some of these De Waard's do appeal.

Yesterday I was asking about these tents because I didn't know what they were. At present I'm a fairly obsessive VW campervanner, but I'm thinking like this:

  • By the time our current campervan becomes too old and tired to still be considered economical I'll be retired.
  • Being retired I don't expect I'll be able to afford to replace the current van with one anywhere near as young and modern as the one we have at present.
  • The cost of fuel will never go down.
  • I don't want to stop travelling-and-camping.

The conclusion I'm approaching:

The cost of a big Dutch tent is peanuts cf. with replacing a campervan, so when the current campervan becomes too expensive I should buy a little 75mpg Citroen C1, or similar, and a big Dutch tent and keep on pottering around Europe in relative luxury and with much greater economy.

I must admit i'm drawn to the quality of these tents but i'm not to sure of their comfort, when you consider the single pole construction and sloping roof i would prefer to actually see one up close before i made up my mind

We saw two up close in Castlerigg Hall 2 weeks ago. Very well made tents. Being nosey I looked at the big model and it was really roomy inside with 2 sleeping pods at the back and lots of living space and a great canopy incorporating the flysheet. The owners had like a covered patio area beyond the inside of the tent and had 2 loungers sitting in this area. It really looked a lovely tent.

The other tent was smaller but I didnt really go near that one as the owners were a bit strange and gave me the creeps!!
