Hi again Nubian.
I don't think This is the type of forum to do battle
The idea Of this forum is to discuss all aspects of camping under canvas and should your post be on a safety aspect on heating in a tent, Then I am sure you would not get the replies you have received on here. It is not helping new or established camper to tell them they are been environmentally unfriendly when all they are doing is keeping their families warm. Something man as done since the beginning of time.
No Nubian we are not joining together to strike you down.
This is a friendly forum were we can have a joke at the expense of someone and also accept when we are at the receiving end.
You knew before you posted this subject that it was libel to come to this, so please no not complain if you do not like what other have to say back to you. I also over step the mark now and again but I accept it when I get stamped on
All the best
Rex

Hello Rex!

I don't really mean battle in any aggressive sense but I believe lorrnev and some of his cyber mates often needlessly raise the heat (no pun intentend) on some of the comments I post! A shame really as we are all campers discussing points of interest and I can assure you I had no idea it would "come to this". I hope we can continue to exchange views as we have without falling out!

Keep posting and best of luck to you Rex!

Funny opening the zip on the tent and hearing the plink plink plink of ice.

...I hear it quite often.....G&T anyone?

So...er ...I'm sure I'm being slightly naive but...if we are experiencing global warming..why can't we have the bit that actually gets a bit warmer?...

As for heating a tent, well, I think with the concessions to being greener we make at home and at work if I wanted to warm up my tent for an hour or so I would do it without the slightest bit of guilt. However, seeing as we are usually fair weather campers, the situation rarely rears it's head.

Surely someone cooking on a BBQ would have a greater carbon footprint than someone using gas for both heating a tent and cooking as charcol is pure carbon.

Half of the output of burning propane/butane is water.

Edit:
My hubby dug up some figures (it's not enough to say it's cold - he needs to know how cold! - I've given him my new Outwell temperature guage.)

C (graphite, solid) produces 393kJ/mol (12g)
Propane produces 2219 kJ/mol (44g)

Ratio of output carbon:propane = 1:5.6
Ratio of weight carbon:propane = 1:3.6

Therefore weight-for-weight propane is a more efficient fuel than carbon in terms of heat output, approximately 1/3 by weight of the output is water.

So (depending on how much energy you're using to heat your tent) a BBQ could well have a bigger carbon footprint than burning the gas.

(Please don't ask me questions on this - I just typed it!)

im sorry you feel like that Nubian, i cant believe you think anyone could have you gagged as you put it, over a disagreement over what tent we choose to own. This site is simply not run like that. If you had some sort of ban or whatever it is you mean you must have done something to merit it. As i have said before, lets agree to differ, there is no right make of tent to own, or right or wrong in using heating. Can we let this go now and forget about imagined vendettas(sp?)

ps, im a her

Everyone loses posts from time to time in here, me included...the mods are swift and deadly, but entirely capable of making up their own minds as to what they don`t like. It`s part of the fun, actually...watching entire threads vanish in a puff of smoke because the tone of arguements has veered from the civil, or when trolls have been sighted.

Dear lorrnev!

Sorry if I have caused offence.I can assure you that whilst I do not accept that what happened to me was merited I fully agree that we should all be free to decide what tent to own. I don't really want to go into it in this thread but you may recall that I only went on the offensive when I was attacked unfairly yet I was the one singled out for "punishment". Anyway it's all in the past now and I have refrained from the vigorous defence of any particular make that I may have jumped to but I still seem to get unpleasant comments from some quarters on the same old theme even though I may not have said a word about it- see your first comment and that from caster!

You will note that all those posts I made have been expunged and that particular thread has been closed so anyone reading this apart from a few will have no idea what we are talking about!

By the way I had no idea you were a "she" and as a Gentleman I would never go on to attack you even in defence, so I'm happy to call a truce and draw a line under it and wish you good luck!

well cheers for that, sorry to hear you were attacked unfairly or otherwise, very unusual on this site, and hadnt realised till you mentioned you had been punished.. This is the friendliest site on the net and we seldom have disagreements. Sometimes people suspect a troll tho and get a bit defensive.

Best of luck to you too,

Have a nice weekend, im off camping in the morning so goodnight.

(in my second hand 12 year old tt, having sold the outwell job, cant quite wait)
