Has anybody ever experienced any problems with the width of their tents at busier campsites. typical family place in summer. the tent we would like is over 4 meters wide plus windshield. could that be a problem anywhere? please someone must have some experience with this.

please help!!

Hi teutonia
Small camping site do not like large tents less tents mean less money and will probably want to charge you extra.
But your tent is not considered very wide by the majority of sites and you should not get any problems. What you do about site that ask extra for a 4M wide tent is up to you but I will not use these sites.
A good guide to tent size pitches is what the C&C Club set as an acceptable size is 9 meter long by 5 meters wide, and you will always be accepted with a tent of them dimensions on their sites and should they have a larger pitch available they will accept a wider tent at no extra cost but if they have not got a larger pitch they will offer you the opportunity to book two pitches for the extra cost of the pitch.
Regards
Rex

Many sites, including C&CC sites, have a standard pitch width of 11 metres.  After allowing for the 6 metre space rule this leaves 5 metres for the maximum tent width.  If you need more than 5 metres then you may be limited to a pitch without electrics, as pitch widths these days tend to be governed by the spacing of EHU points.

Thank you!! This actually has been helpful. Just now I don't know which tent to go for. The 6 or 4 person coleman galileo. the possible problem at campsites was an argument against the 6 person one. We are only two adult, one child and a dog, so the 4 would probably be sufficient, but I am paranoid to be stuck on a rainy day in a tent  with a lively 4 year old a young dog and not enough space!!! And we might want to have another child one day and than there won't always be just 3 humans. Oh, what to do. the 6 just feels a bit over the top and I know I am rambling on (sorry) but this is our first tent and we don't want to get it wrong and regret buying either of them.

Thanks a ton for your information anyway.

love kerstin

Your tent is not overwide. You should be ok. Ours is 8m x 7m and we have been turned away from one site.
