Just back from a very wet weekend in Filey in our new tent, basically we got an outwell montana 6 which kept us all nice and dry despite the downpours.....the thing is it was soaking wet when we took it down and unless I take time off work, I won't have the chance to dry the tent off till the weekend. Does any1 know if it's likely to be damaged by mould or damp or anything by being kept in the bag and wet until then? Any advice would be appreciated. thanks
Ours was stuck on its bag wet for just over a week after a weekend at Bakewell. Didn't seem to do it any harm. I did pull it out of the bag slightly, but left it folded as soon as we got back though. Just to let a little air get to it.
If you have a large garden put it up and leave it for a few days. Or drape it over the banister (if you have one). it WILL start to smell after 4/5 days if left in its bag wet.
48 hours is regarded as the "safe" period to leave a tent folded up in the bag, though of course some folk do get lucky. At the very least you need to take it out the bag and fluff it up a bit to let air circulate, and keep turning it as often as possible. Even with this though there`s no guarantee it won`t start mouldering in an airless corner.
Thanks for your replies, weather looks half decent 2moro and think I'd rather take a day off work and let it dry in the garden than leave it till the weekend and have it mouldy or smelly. Cheers forthe advice.
We got back from Cornwall on Saturday and our tent was soaked as we took it down in a mad down pour. Ideally i would have like to have taken it down later that day but we had to be off the site by 10am. I should have listened to my wife who suggested decamping Friday afternoon and going home then but i was feeling lazy after the best day we had all week in the sunshine on the beach.
I have just put my vango oregon 600 up this morning in the garden not knowing what the weather was gonna do today as its overcast in the Midlands but the beeb web says its sunny!!...I am glad i did as it was still soaked but now is completely dry
My advice is pitch it in the garden and leave it as its better to do this than to leave it festering in the bag
Our Minnesota 4 has been semi-erected in the bathroom to dry out from our weekend away at Brixham. So glad I have such a big bathroom, although we cant get to the toilet at moment until i close it up later.
Hi, you must get it out to air as soon as possible. My son-in-law didn't and his tent was stained and had mildew. The Montana has a great canvas and can stand up to a lot of hammering. My guess is, it should be ok, but you really must try and get it out and aired. We have a Bearlake 6 as well as a Minnesota 4 and the Bearlake came back from a recent trip absolutely soaked. We put it in the dining room over the table and chairs and kept turning it. It was bone dry in about 12 hours.Goodluck!
We got back from devon on Saturday evening and like you our tent was absolutely soaking. I draped our Vango Aspen 700 fly sheet over the banister last night and put the heating on and even though there were puddles of water all over the hall floor it had dried by this morning - the inner was a different story! I had to try and dry it this morning . I laid in in the garden and opened all the doors and put garden chairs inside to let the air flow through. It took a while for the bedrooms the dry but it is all packed away til next year. We are taking the smaller tent this weekend!
