After having our tent for three years we finally went camping at the weekend.  It was very wet but we had an excellent time.  Was just wondering what people would recommend for lighting.  Had a couple of torches but hey batteries wear out.  We also had a single ring stove which was ok but wondering if anyone could advise what other stuff we should really have.  Any help would be appreciated.

I've got wind up torches and they're brilliant. Cost about a fiver from Wilkinsons. Cooker I bought from Argos but not used it yet so can't comment. But you'll have loads of suggestions from others on here the main one being "make sure you take a corkscrew!"

Glad you had a fantastic time!

Thanks for your reply - unfortunately with three adults, four kids and a dog - not one of us drinks alcohol but thanks for the tip.

We bought a camping lantern from 'LIDL' supermarket - uses a low energy long life bulb. Powered by 4 'D' cells. We used it every evening from Sunday to Friday and was still bright as daylight and we only used cheap batteries from a pound store!!

We also use wind up torches for carrying to the toilet/shower, or reading after lights out!! - very handy

Glad you had a good first trip!

LIGHTING - The best purchase I have made this year was our UFO style LED lights from Morrisons. £3 each and powered by 3 AA batteries and they are really really bright! One of these lights up a Wynnster Corvus 8 Living area which is massive!!

Yup, I`ve got a couple of these. Really good value, at £10 (?) each and the light is good too.

Yep got the Lidl lantern too.

We use strip lights that plug into a cigarette socket on the car, with a 5m extension cable to run it into the tent.....however we have a Japaneese 4x4 so we have 2 batteries, wouldn't necessarily run it off the other car, which only has one battery!!

We too bought this lantern and was amazed at how bright it was.

We got the UFO light from morrisons too and its extremely bright. Only problem is every morrisons we've been too since, including the one we got the light from doesn't seem to stock them any more. Think it might have been a summer offer.
