We are going to be selling my tent sometime in the future, because my hubby is replacing his work van, so we are going for the next size up van (prob biggest you can get without it being a lorry!!!) and the middle section we are converting (properly) into a 'camper' type thing, with his work space at the back end, with a drive away awning for extra space.

But do you think we should sell our tent at the end of this season or the beginning of next years season???

And should I sell on E Bay or locally ( papers etc...)?

And should I sell as a camping kit or sell all the bits and bobs seperatley???

Any advice / ideas will be most appreciated!

THANKS!!!

Sell in the spring, when the sun starts shining and the lambs are frolicking in the fields.

My suggestion would be to sell next April/May/June and advertyise on here and on Ebay. The simplest and easiest thing to do would be to sell all your stuff as a package, but I suspect you could make quite a few more pennies if you were able to make the effort and sell it as separate items. MT

iv just sold my hartford xl on ebay, got £141 for it plus £30 postage. I asked to be paid by cheque to save on the Paypal fees. Whatever way you do it sell them all separately as you will get more money for them. The only thing to consider if waiting till next year is that the tent will then be a year older and people tent to want to pay less even tho you wont be using it all winter.

use photobucket for plenty of free pictures in auction, i listed mine for about 50p with lots of full colour pics.

sorry link no longer works, heres the number - 330153634286

If you did it just now you will still get plenty of interest, i was happy with price for mine considering a new one is down to £230.

Certainly agree with that piece of advice. As a buyer I wouldn't want to store a tent I may not use until summer next year. Also the fact the gear is a few months older wouldn't make any difference to me, it's condition that counts.

i agree ernie, it wouldnt matter to me either, but iv found from experience with selling tents is the first thing im asked is year of manufacture with outwells etc so i think it must make a difference to some people.

Nowt as queer as folk. But I guess if models/features change then it could be important. I'd just be happy I got a bargain. Thanks for giving me the benefit of your experience.

Well we're looking at tents on ebay at the moment and could have kicked myself today. A Vango Oregon 600 sold for 99p - nothing wrong with it but just not many people thinking about buying a tent after the wet summer I guess. It was too small for us but if I'd been on the ball I'd have bought it and held onto it until the spring, then sold it!

Another thing that kept the price down was that it was 'collection only' which rather limits who will buy it. If you do sell on ebay can I suggest you have 'collection only' as an option but also include the postage price so people can decide.

How much do you think you might get for your tent, I'm not sure that what will (in 2008) look like a 4 year old tent will be worth very much at all?

thats what i was thinking Piglet, other reason things go cheap on Ebay is poor marketing, its a lot of trust buying from strangers so i always include lots of full size pictures so people can get a good idea of what they are buying.

I wasnt keen to post my Hartford, the poor parcelforce guy could hardly carry it to his van, it was pickup only but i got so many queries from England i agreed to post it. Certainly gives you a far bigger market.

If you are a member of the Camping and Caravan Club, then I would advertise it in the club magazine next Spring. Most people do not want to buy a tent at this time of year.So just hang in and you will definitely get a better price next Spring. Just make sure everything is stored dry throughout winter.

another point to consider is the 2008 Hartford i believe is going to be outer first which might lower the price of yours considerably. I decided to sell mine before that fact becomes widely known.
