My son has borrowed our 6 man tent and gone to Leeds festival for the weekend with 3 of his mates - I know my son will be careful with it and i'm sure his mates will too but it dosen't stop me worrying..........he's not a child anymore (19 yrs old) but I love my tent!!
Before he went I think I drove him daft - "watch what yr doing; don't bend the poles; don't trip over the guy lines; and NO SMOKING inside MY tent"....... maybe I should just relax............

Eeek! I always take my cheapy Tesco tent to festivals. Its probably not him and his friends you need to worry about, but other people tripping over the guylines, falling into the tent and worse!
It's not him you need to worry about, it's the other 75,000+ peeps. I have found out from 1st hand experience if you have a large tent at festivals the thieves there think you have better, and more, stuff to nick! Sorry!
Plus all tents at festival sites are on top of each other and peeps WILL trample on your tent! Sorry again but these are facts!
They would have been better of with a cheap festival tent from Millets.
On the plus side, if it comes back OK you've been lucky.
But what do theifs actually do to the tent? do they not just walk in and have a look around? I'm hoping to use my 6 man tent for the V festival next year.
They just walk in as if the tent is theirs, that's what happened to ours at V98. They even left the door unzipped so other thieves would see it had already been robbed, ba5tard5. Most people around will be in the music arena.

I hope the tent wasn't too expensive, without wishing to worry you, the chances of it coming back undamaged are pretty remote. I hope they'll replace it for you, if it does get damaged...
I haven't been to a festival for a good few years, but we always took a tent that was 'on it's last legs' because they don't often survive the experience... A tent, roll mat and sleeping bag was all we ever took (camping gear wise), nothing you wouldn't want to lose or get damaged...
It was only a cheepie pro action one from Argos but still quite good and fairly easy to put up - if it comes back damaged I suppose I could always splash out on a new one - maybe an 'outwell' or a 'vango' .............. part of me is hoping it's broken now

I was at V fest last week and there were some HUGE tents around. Depending on where people camped depended on if they got trashed or not, in the busy areas, with through routes, it was more muddy etc and more likely to be open to theives. I didn't see many trashed tents at all if I'm to be honest. I was surprised as I was expecting far more!
We were up at the top end, so wasn't muddy, thankfully no thefts that I know of, and my little Sunncamp voyager 3man came back unscathed apart from a small amount of mud :)
Had a fab time and hoping to go next year. (even if it was muddy and rained non-stop for both days!)
