well we used our new tent last weekend and it leaked, not much but we only had a little rain, it seemed to be around the bedroom pod hangers. we returned it for a new one with no problems but if this leaks i am thinking of sealing these areas rather than change it again, i love the tent ( and have spent a fortune on carpet,canopy,windbreaks) so would like to stick with it. any help with how to do this and what to use would be very helpfull. we are off to st ives next week so could take everything needed and do it there when its up.

Hi Princess Pauline - welcome to the Forums

When you get your new tent erect it and then inspect all of the seams internally for the possiblity that they have got no lifting and its all in place - do this with the bedroom pod/s out - if there is any doubt about the integrity of the seams - use the seam sealer provided with your tent and if you did not get some - go and purchase a good one like NikWax Seam Sealer and apply to all seams and ensure this is well and truly dry - then insert your bedroom pod/s and check the areas again.

If you have a hose pipe give the tent a good soaking simulating a heavy rain storm and then check for leaks again - this will show you where you are leacking from should you have any.

Some tents also have a build up of condensation due to warmth of your bodies at night and cold air outside - make sure it is not condensation rather than a leak.

Gary - Tents are not supposed to have tarps over the top and it is not ideal to do this - it defeats the object really. Percivere with the seam sealant its worth it in the end - if your tent leaks that badly maybe you need to return it - Best of Luck

 i will take your advice and see how i get on would you use spray or roll on sealer ? will let the outcome but maybe some time as i am not expecting any rain whilst away next week

Hello all,

We had the same problem at the weekend in the lakes, I have a Sunncamp Haven 600 and i had a few puddles at the bottom of the seams besides the bedroom attachments, I sprayed it with Fabrisil waterproofer but didn't work.  Mind you the rain was like a monsoon   pouring down on us and it didn't let up for 2 days.

We saw a few people with tarps over the top of their tents, I couldn't understand why, a tent to cover a tent...Strange        each to the own I suppose.   Hopefully the rain will stay off for you Princess Pauline and you won't have any trouble.  good luck and enjoy your jollies!

Hi Pauline - I use a roll on sealer - its a lot more controllable to be honest and thick - spray sealers are ok for external but internal I prefer the roll on - hope that helps - if in doubt ask your nearest tent dealer but I have had no trouble with the NikWax roll on sealer
