ODD!!!ODD!!! some would claim that anyone camping was odd. We camp as a family and often see lone camper of both sex and never really thought it odd more a wonderfull trip really. That covered obviously safety is considered too I would join the C&CC club and if it makes you feel safer get one of those personal alarms but all club sites I have been on have been friendly and we have often enjoyed an evening drink with a lone neighbour. My best memory of a lone female was a lady of some years in a very small motor home with a porch who always waved to my children as they went past and over the weekend was seen many times knitting in the sun and simply taking it easy and enjoying life. Far from lonely she spoke to many people and many spoke to her. How great.
a few year back we had a lad come in our tent,i think he was drunk and got in the wrong tent, after 10 mins or so my dog did let go of him though,it wasnt a ccc or cc site though and it was a tad rowdy on a weekend,if i were you id stick to ccc or cc sites,if at anytime you feel worried there is always extra space in my sleeping bag.lol,if you dont tell my wife i wont.
------------- please dont think im mad,im just different
If you join the C&CC, think about joining the Association of Lightweight Campers section. They are very friendly and there are several women who camp alone with them (myself included). They don't interfere, but are willing to help you if you run into difficulties. They include cycle campers, back packers and motorcycle campers as well as car campers. Most nights some of them will go to the local pub for food and during the day you can either do your own thing or join in with other plans. It's all quite casual.
------------- There will be good days and bad days and THIS is one of them.
I am in my early 60's and still camp with a tent. Used to go with hubby in motor home before he was ill. I missed the outdoor life so much that I have now gone full circle back to a tent.
It gets difficult sometimes to erect it alone, well not so much difficult as hard work, but as to the safety aspect, I can honestly say there has never been a moments discomfort at all.
Everyone is friendly. Join a club if you feel more secure and go enjoy!
