We are very much into modern tents for our Scout Group gives us much more flexibility for winter camping, but there are traditionalists out there who continue to use the old Patrol tents, but they are not good for the colder weather as they don't have sewn in ground sheets.

Sorry but don't know MamaBear, is she into this Scouting lark.

I dont like to be cold so in early and late season we put an old sleeping bag opened out on top of the airbed with a fitted sheet over, then a double sleeping bag and then a double duvert, always nice and warm. I also put picnic rugs in the living area to insulate underfoot and make sure the switch for the heater is within reach for first thing in the morning. The kids have camping mays under there airbeds and 4 season mummy bags and are laways nice and snug.

We do that in the summer and have a 1kw oil filled radiator, and my nose is still freezing! I'm working on a special nose covering hat for the next trip

must admit that we are contemplating going away again! Asked the OH if we should put all our stuff into store for the winter and his little face fell!

Obviously I don't like to upset my other half I suggested that maybe we should look to go at half term!

Of course it has nothing to do with the fact that I can't bear the thought of not going camping until next year and all to do with making OH happy!

Only thing we find this late n in the year is the damp in the morning, not a problem, but can do without it lol

We have a small 1kw oil heater that we leave on all night but still gets a little damp in the tent.

We camped at the end of last October, and the weather was not good.    We had a tent heater for first thing in the morning and the evening.    I just took some fleecy blankets for extra warmth with the sleeping bags.   I find the throw type the best because they can be used either inside or outside the tent.    We took warm clothes, and weren't in the least bit cold.

Sadly the rain and galeforce winds defeated us, and the majority of other campers, as after a lot of torrential rain, the already damp camping field became a lake.    We were meant to be going on the Friday, but on the Wednesday afternoon the heavens opened, and it continued to pour down all night.    When I wen to the loos on Thursday morning, I paddled.    Loads of people packing up, and the site was flooded.    Had it not been for this we would have stayed.    

We always go end oct and have even taken small babies and kids. Extra blankets above and below, fleece p.js, bed socks and flick the heater on before you get up to take chill off. Rember if you get cold on the day in takes longer to warm up so keep warm all day too. It will be great!

Everyone keeps mentioning heaters BUT where we go ,they dont have EHU!!!

Still want to go  in Sept and October though....
