At what age do people puts kids in there own pup tent.
My eldest son is a nearly 11 and want to sleeping his own tent next season. We're thinking of getting him either a 2man hiking tents or a 2man popup tent.
I think 11 or 12 is about right to let them sleep in a pup tent, but of course it depends on the child. I would advise that if you can afford it you get a 3 berth pup tent then there will be room for a friend if he wants to take one and also plenty of room for their clobber. A 2 berth tent is really only big enough for 1 unless they want to be very cosy!
two of my children were in a pup tent on the last two trips, first one was always the 10yrold and his nearly 9 year old sister and then on last one the 7yr old went in with my 10 yr old for one night. I always pitch the tent at the back of the pitch and between the two pedroom pods and to me with the older ones no difference than being in a different pod in the tent. Only you know your child ect and can make that decision when you feel the time is right.
You will need to assess whether he can sleep on his own each time you camp. Take his tent and decide when you get there. You are best getting a 2 /3 berth take a look at some erected before you buy. A wind up torch is a good idea as children have a habit of leaving them on and my son is one of them.
------------- Yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Get him his own tent if he wants to go for it on his own, you can always put it back in it's bag if he changes his mind. In the night you can hear everything so him being in the tent next door is no different to him having his own bedroom pod as you'd hear zips being pulled etc. and if he takes a mate, believe me you can hear the laughter and the music on their mobile phones too!
