we're planning camping through the winter and currently use airbeds for sleeping, I've read on other posts about having mats underneath the airbed to stop the cool air rising through, can anyone recommend any that aren't too expensive but will do the job?, also, do you put anything over the airbed?, normally we just have the airbed on the groundsheet and us then the duvet over the top! but realise this isn't going to be sufficient now the nights are getting cooler!, I don't like sleeping bags cos me and OH are both tall so find they aren't long enough

You can get small picnic rugs with plastic backs in poundshops. For winter camping, we put something under airbeds, in our case the foil backed mats £3.99 towsure, and a blanket on top. We have fleece liners for sleeping bags and spare blankets if still cold. Rather be too warm than too cold, although the kids don't seem to notice the cold much!

Just thought I'd add, tesco do a really good size picnic rug for about £5. We use one in the living area asa carpet but would cover the area for 2 single airbeds side by side.

I saw some of those large windscreen foil things for putting in the car on hot days.  Tesco's were selling them for less than £2 each.  I was thinking about getting them to put under our air beds to keep the cold out or body heat in.  Not sure if they would work but at £2 it might be worth a try.

You need to put the insulation on TOP of the air bed, or it will feel that cold is striking up from below.
There is a lot of cold air in an air bed which your body will end up trying to heat.
Believe me; been there, done it.
Try carpet under felt or the like.

We've got a fur fabric mattress cover which is brilliant, it also offers some protection from the dogs' claws!

The mattress cover was pretty cheap and came from Argos, I think.
