We had three good trips:

1. May bankholiday very warm but rained when we took tent down

2. Mid june was good weekend except friday night/sat morning.

3. Last 2 weeks in Aug were very kind to us and we had a really good holiday.

Two trips were cancelled due to bad weather which we were gutted about.  Can't win them all though. will really look forward to next season though...watch this space.

We had just over a week in August (20th - 28th)at the Fisherground in the Lake District.
The weather was glorious in the main, just a couple of iffy days.
We had two weeks in the Vendee, France August 2006 and the weather this year in the Lake District was much better.
Not sure what to do next year!

We've been away loads since February. Had one full week when we had the best of the best and the worst of the worst. Camped last weekend, going again next weekend, halloween weekend, bonfire weekend, and new year! No time to pack away!

1st year for us.

Great time

Long weekend in Stirling - wet but great

1 week in Loire - almost too hot. Superb for wife and me, 7 yr old not so impressed

1 week in Britany - son had great time, made several friends. So brilliant for us as well

Bit of a disappointment TBH
We had 4 trips:

1, Easter at a new spot and excellent weather all weekend.
2, Ackworth steam festival and Glastonbury had nothing on Ackworth that weekend yet a good weekend was had by help of the Beer tent and persevering "Steamers".

3, Masham works annual camping trip that had fine weather all 3 days.
4, Yorkshire air show Pi55ed it down all weekend from Friday until Monday morning.
But it did stop for us to get the tents dry and away.

So not bad for the crap weather we've had this year and would have liked to get away for more weekends.

But hey ho that's how it goes.

As we are fine weather campers we haven't been out once this year

We got the equipment out earlier on in the year to check it out then placed it in a nice convenient heap near the garage door - that's the last time it has moved all summer

Maybe next year will be better ;)

Hi Mel.
Our trips away dropped by 50% we only managed 5 this year and our last we brought home two wet tents.
But for me it is all a part of camping under canvas.
Every year is different over the years I have known heatwaves with dead grass everywear I have camped in snow in May and October Been washed out on a few occasions, Been retired now for four years and still thinking should we save up and get a new Cabanon Biscay We have also had two caravans and a camper van but still camped as well as you are restricted to tents only on the sites we used to go to.
Get a caravan by all means it make life easier than a tent but also keep your tent for that special site in the lovely warm glorious summers
All the best.
Rex.

We have had quite a mixed time this year:

Early May b/h - cold but dry weekend locally

end of may b/h very mixed, with 24 hours of torrential rain

June -10 days in Dorset - very wet, only a few days without rain, but we were well prepared and ahd a fantastic time!

July- Stainsby festival, Derbyshire - SWAMP city!! Up to our knees in mud. WOuld have packed up and gone home but we had my niece and nephew with us and they were loving every minute!

Mid Sept- lovely mild weekend at RIpley N Yorks with friends.

We have put our main kit away, but OH wants to do some winter camping so the small 4 season tent is still accessible (I am not decided on whether I will be joining him though!)

So we did get a few good nights, and had lots of fun despite the weather, and we have good kit that has withstood the worst of the summer, so we are defo NOT giving up this camping lark. Roll on 2008!

We were new to camping this year.  Pitching in pouring rain where everything got wet, the groundsheet leaked, inner tent getting wet overnight and the new ehu blowing up completely put me off camping and i was heard to ask why anyone would think this was fun.  A good nights sleep, dh making up a new hook-up and a warm windy drying out day soon made me realise that actually this camping lark was exactly what i wanted.  It rained all night every night with a couple of showers during the day.  Me and dh stayed in the tent and the kids and my mum and dad stayed in a static so not really a proper camping holiday for the kids, so we went a couple of weekends ago to Cambridge and it was dry the week before and stayed dry all weekend and we were all outside on the Saturday in glorious sunshine.

I just can't wait for next year now...

Jeannie

HeHeHe

i have just found my thread again and have read through all your posts. Some of you have been very lucky and some not so. I'm glad to see even those who got wet still not giving up, It has given me a bit of inspiration actually and I am going to use my clubcard vouchers to pay for two seperate week long haven camping trips next year. That way i know there will be some indoorsy things to do if weather not good but have picked carefully and know that we can just stay away from entertainment if we want.

I am also going to try to be a bit more flexible next year and just go for a few weekends locally too....

Come on 2008......

Melx

Being our first year camping, i must say that the three times we went out in our tent, 1 for 1 week and some long weekends it did rain most of the time, and at nights i did get cold, but saying that we all had a good time. The kids loved the mud, i must say i am a hot weather girl but looking forward to next year.  From Tracey

Thats the spirit - get planning for next year - possibly get onto sites that are always full by booking early - not sure if some sites offer early booking discounts would be a good idea if they did.

It is a bit of pain when your starting out and it rains. Melpa booking onto a site like haven does give you options. Nice one.

Fingers crossed for a good summer next year !!
