I think it's all about expectation! We camp in the winter too, and expect the weather to be cold, wet and maybe windy. In the summer, you expect it to be warm, dry and maybe breezy. If we get our heads round the fact that seasons have shifted, then when we go camping we'll expect whatever is thrown at us and it won't be so bad.

I think the weather adds to the challenge too. It's great thinking back over the disasters as well as the 'perfect' trips. Like has been said, it gives you something to muse over.

The only problem I have with camping is that I just can't find the ultimate tent that suits all our wants and needs!

Definitely had a soggy camping season this year - but can't wait to get the tent out again next year - although now my oldest daughter has just started school we will be tied to the school holidays - this year was our last year of holiday freedom!!!

We are however going to book a week in Majorca next May/June to offset any soggy camping trips we may have next year!!

We had to cancel a weekend in Yorkshire in June because of the weather but still had a nice time staying with friends.

Had a mixed two weeks in France in July but mainly fantastic.

Had a mixed weekend in Dorset in August.

So, I would say......mixed. However the weather would have been the same if we hadn't been in a tent and we probably couldn't have afforded a single week in Majorca in the school hols for what our camping hols cost.

Roll on next year - though I am still trying to persuade the OH that next weekend isn't out of the question!

Well, I had a completely mixed bag of weather in Cornwall this year (August) with neighbours saying the week before was scorching blah blah blah.

The very first time I camped with my Missus it rained. She hated it but my stance ws if you can survive this, you can survive anything and now she loves it ........ which shows by the money we've invested in kit!

It won't put me off though ....... my addage is that a holiday is what you make it.

Obviously I'm hoping for a better week next year to get some proper body boarding action!!

We got flooded out on friday 13 july dident give up ,just moved pitch, ended up with nice weather rest of week ,It would have been so easy to pack up and go home.I was crying my eyes out,but OH said we are staying it is not going to beat us,we was up to our knees in water,we couldent take car to tent because we would not have got it off the field.so we had to carry every soddon thing about 2 hundred yards to the car, then pull the trailer across the feild to car,Ijust wish ther had been more than 2 of us,it would have been great to have someone to film us,Because looking back we loved every minute of it,And that is the reason we will never give up camping, plus the fact we are in our late 50 s .So dont give it up just make whatever is thrown at you enjoyable

We've been lucky and only had 1 soggy weekend out of 5 trips away at opposite ends of the country.
I think there was an expectation this year that the summer was going to be a good one.
It was the totally unexpected rain fall and cool temperatures that were not expected, fine I suppose if you are not relying on the british climate for your hols.
I do hope it has not put people off too much because I love if it raining and you are nice and cosy in your tent and you have no choice but to totally chill out and relax listening to the rain. Love it

One thing I enjoyed was playing cards in the tent when it was soggy outside.  At home, the TV or computer is on so much when I go round to see daughter and grandson that we never get round to it.  When camping, we read books, play games and talk to one another.  If only I was more strict with the off switch at home.

My memories of 2007 is one of just how extreme the weather has been within only a few days.

I've camped for 40 years & yes I've been frozen, soaked, toasted & survived force 10 winds on a good number of occasions but never in the space of three days before. I will be out twice in October for more but hoping for better.

Memories go with all the others happy and wow what a year..

The weather has thrown EVERYTHING at us this year...but it was fun...

I have actually bought a caravan have been doing it for 3 yrs now !!

Mainly because i cant phisically do the humping of stuff in and out and setting up thats involved in tenting...
In saying that I have had Mavis for 3 weeks and last weekend went off in the TENT with hubby with a couple of friends for company great night in Abergelly....lol

Carry on camping and roll in the memories...
