We will be travelling down to Cornwall on Thursdy with our dogs for the first time. Unfortunately neither enjoy the car so we thought we would plan a couple of good breaks so that they can have a break and a walk. Could the well informed amongst you tell me where along the M5 travelling from Birmingham to south Cornwall would be good stop off points for the dogs. I think we may be forced to have two breaks so I assume that might be slightly north of Bristol and somewhere in Devon.

thanks

We might not be dog owners but going to cornwall for the last ten years we seem to know that at the service areas on the M5 you could try taunton deane near somerset or gordano services near avonmouth but michaelwood services is not really for dogs to run around.Hope the information is of use to you and you have a good holiday with your two dogs

yes we usually stop at Taunton Deane but before we had the dogs, dog facilities is something we really did'nt look out for. The only concern I have is that TD is quite some way down the motorway and I'm not sure they will cope with being in the car that long.

You might be better off asking your question on a dog forum. Dog show people especially travel a lot with their dogs, and are likely to know of good places. Try something like the dog chat forum on petfriendlyworld.co.uk or google champdogsuk forum.

http://www.5minutesaway.co.uk

the above website may help, it lists facilities such as pubs, shops etc within 5 minutes of any motorway junction, it also lists things like attractions. Not sure if it will help you with the dog, but we have used it before to find things near the motorway so we can stop for lunch and have had a pub lunch in the beer garden with the dog.

www.drivingwithdogs.co.uk

This site has details of walks near motorway junctions. I think it's fairly new so not everywhere is covered but it looks like there are quite a few suggestions for the M5.

I read the title of the thread and pictured a very large dog sat on the motorway, holding up the traffic.  [8D]

All the service areas have somewhere you can give them a bit of a walk on a lead, but if you want them to have a good run you would need to leave the motorway.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.

Yes Carel31, a member on another site gave me the link to www.drivingwithdogs and I have managed to find a couple of good stopping off points for my trip down to Cornwall.
