We've had our tent 10years this summer (thats gone) and we went away last weekend and the elastic in the poles has snapped due to too much use! But overall its in good conditions its a High Point one cost a bomb back when we brought it!! Goin to try and buy some more elastic for the poles as its such a good tent. Anyone got any suggestions?

Good day Rex.

If I win on the lotto, I would buy I campervan before a Rolls Royce  or similar. It would get me from campsite to campsite. I would still sleep under canvas each night.  ( I own 3 tents) and that is my perfect holiday in the Uk or Europe. Now my family say that if I win on the Lotto they would have me committed as insane if i still went camping !                                                                                                              Should I worry about this ?  I have tried to convert them but I think they are mad ! What sort of society does not understand the Great Outdoors???  Have i failed them in some way......

Like most on here, we camp because it's our holiday of choice.

Maybe it's a control thing, but I'd rather sleep on our airbed, in our own tent, and cook our own choice of food on our own cooker, than sleep in an hotel bed and eat mass-produced tasteless nosh anyday!

I think this is a great topic for a camping forum. Rex, as you say, it is only a conversation about our favourite hobby. Camping is like eating olives - you either love it or hate it. If you hate it then you will never understand why people even do it let alone actually enjoy it.

For me it is the fresh air, my own bed, and freedom to do exactly what I want.

If I won the lottery - I must admit I would buy a campervan and tour Europe.

Hi some families spend their money on all sorts of things, we spend all ours and a bit of the banks on camping. We are off up to Birmingham to-morrow to pick up another Cabanon Andorra we have bought on eBay for spare parts. Sounds like a car But we have just been quoted £160 for a new bedroom for our present tent so at that rate this two year old tent with an annex for £280 is a real bargain, and there is another one on eBay with a day to go and as not yet had an acceptable bid, Val said No. Two is enough
Regards
Rex

Would i still go camping if i won the lottery? let me tell you, i have won the lottery for the last three weeks running, so as a multi £10 winner, of course i will still go camping, that`s CAMPING proper, under canvas or whatever they make them from now-a-days. I first went camping at age sixteen ,hich-hiking up to the lake district with everything on my back, the tent leaked like the proverbial sive and on one very windy night the whole bloody lot blew away, leaving me in my wet sleeping bag and laughing my head off. Now i take my grandchildren, the tent doesn`t leak, we can walk about inside, everyone has their own bedroom, but the feeling of being at one with nature remains, that thin piece of fabric between me and the outside world is  what camping is all about. Sorry "tin tenters" but while you may feel you are camping, your not even close.

I have been camping for 30 years now (told my mum I was going for the weekend) and I think I am starting to like it.
