I have been back on here lately after a hectic year, and not even 1 nights camping....
I was talking to my mum about possible camping trips next year and was discussing early April which was when I mentioned I might buy ehu she shot me down in flames saying most sites won't accept ehu for tents, only for caravans.
Now i'm sure I have seen loads of posters on here who hookup whilst in a tent, has anybody ever been refused by a site before. And all those that do have a tent that use ehu please post so I can show her......
Hi melpa.
Some caravan sites that segregate tent campers do not have EHU in the camping field.
Always best to check when booking for tent sizes and EHU.

EHU is becoming much more common with tents these days. In the last 3 years of having EHU I have never been refused (or heard of anyone who has) on at least 6 trips/year UK and abroad. Many modern tents now include a zipped entry point specifically for EHU, but I do agree that the odd site does insist on checking that you have a safe EHU - which is no bad thing.
------------- Hotels Suck. Villas are great but I can't take my Cadac on the plane....
I thought this was the case, I would only buy a 'proper' one anyway. But will definately show her your replies (if no-one objects) so I can prove it is not a waste of money buying one.
There are some sites (smaller ones) who don't allow EHUs for tents because the leccy supply is only 6 amp and they fear that it is more likely that tenters will want to run heaters than that caravanners would.
But mostly sites allow it.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
I always contact the site in advance and say we're a tent requiring EHU and they have always accommodated us.
Only one site we went to had a seperate field for tents which had no electric supply, but the owners made us aware of this. When we arrived they said they'd had a cancellation and we could use a caravan grass pitch which had EHU.
Definately worth contacting the sites beforehand as they do differ from one to another.
Melx,if you're going onto EHU make sure you buy the right equipment for your tent..It needs to have at least one socket and be off the ground inside you tent. Get advice from the place you are buying it from.

Same here! Never been refused a hookup unless its not possible due to the location of the tent field. Our last trip of the "Summer" to Bruces cave allowed it, but no heaters were allowed in the tents due to the possibility of tripping the main. We take a little back up gas heater just incase this happens, so we were nice and warm anyway!
I have only come a cross one site, Brompton on Swale, they use to allow ehu in tents last year but when I enquired about staying there this year I was told they no longer supply for tents which is a shame as its a nice site. haven't had any problems anywhere else.
We have what I suppose may be regarded as home made EHU, although it was made by a a qualified electrician, and we have never had a problem with any site not accepting it. We always have EHU.
