Hello all!

Love this site its been really helpful, this my first year of camping in a tent and am trying to do plenty of research before taking the plunge - want to be as prepared as I possible can!!!

Could anyone advise the best sleep solution - campbed, airbed, campbed & airbed, double thickness deluxe air bed thing, mat or anything else!!

One of the most important things to me is sleep (LOL) so need the best solution possible - we are buying a large tent so we should have the space (fingers crossed).

All thoughts, comments and suggestion are very gratefully received.

We used two campbeds tied together with single airbeds on top.  We then made it up as a double bed with a duvet, not sleeping bags.  It was just like sleeping in a real bed.

The bonus was lots of storage space underneath the bed.

Have to agree with the above, plus it's a lot easier getting up in the morning and moving round the bedroom with campbeds.

we have used all then changed to double height airbed with built in pump and real pillows and duvet.

I would not change back.

What camp beds do people use? My partner is quite a large chap... Also, people mentoion tying the two beds together - how do you make it 'one' double bed on top? We have a double sleeping bag which I really dont want to change.

We used the aluminium beds from Argos.

I don't think it works as well with a double sleeping bag.  It works much better with a duvet.

We use campbeds with reed type airbeds on the top, perfect fit. My hubby and I are both on the large side and don't have a problem.  We don't tie ours together, we have one on either side of the large bedroom in our campus indiana. we sleep together all year round, so not a prob for a couple of weeks to have seperate beds!!  Being off the floor is warmer, I add a blanket on top of the airbed, then my sheet, then my sleeping bag, topped with another blanket if necessary, which it usually isn't. Oh, and totally agree, you can't beat having a proper pillow.

We store our holdalls underneath the campbeds, which gives us alot of extra space.  The children have the same arrangement in their bedroom, gives them room to sit in there on a chair and have a laundry bag or basket of books, gameboy games and stuff.  We're all very happy with the arrangement.

Hi, we plumped for a self infating mattress because we haven't got much space in the car.

We went for the Outwell premium double which is so much thicker and much more comfortable than their standard ones.  We got it from Allweathers and I think it was £55.00

So comfy that we used it at xmas for guests.

Fairywhishes  -my OH is also a big chap, 6'8'' , we use a kingsize airbed (single height self-inflating ... will never revert back to the foot pump after we discovered the ease of these) positioned sideways on with a single airbed (sideways) at the bottom to create a massive sleeping area.  The superking fitted sheets don't quite fit over both beds but it works as it fits fairly snugly together within the walls of our sleeping pod. With four pillows and a superking duvet, it's heaven (although we did have to buy a roof box to fit it all in). There's so much space that two of our children have plently of room to sleep with us (our toddler prefers his own space and has a travel cot).

Re inflating problems, we usually have to give a top-up pump once during a two week camp (twice max. if the kids have been giving it welly and jumping up and down on them), not a problem with a connector to the car, takes 30-60 seconds.
