You have to tell us more - where did you go and what did you get up to - stories - we want stories (well I do)

I did three months camping in the summer of 2001. OH had a training course in Hastings and we couldn't afford to keep renting our place and for him to rent lodgings. Some friends needed a place to stay so they paid our rent and looked after the place. We bought a tent and a converted transit camper van and went off with that and the car. We stayed on the first site for a month on one side of town and then moved to a site near Battle for the remaining two months.

I found a temporary job doing office work while the OH was at his course. We used the car to get around and left the camper parked up next to our tent. We fixed a gazebo between the two and draped the side with an old throw for some privacy.

The site owners were happy we were there, as we paid our rent on time and kept an eye on the place. In return they kept an eye on our camp while we were at work.

It was quite bizarre at first waking up in the tent and having to crawl out for a shower to go to work, but it became second nature after a while. And yes it did feel like a three month holiday!

The only bugbear was collecting 20p coins for the showers. I did get my hair cut after a few weeks as it was costing me 80p to wash my hair which got annoying.

Welcome!

The longest we have camped in 2 weeks in France from Calais to the somme, Normandy and into Brittany, stopping at 5 campsites in total and it was great fun! This year we are already planning two weeks in France heading to the Alps we would go for longer but work and the cat can't be left for too long!!

10 weeks at a site 20 minutes from home. we had our bathroom ripped out and what should have taken 5 days turned into 10 long weeks with the builders from hell. Insurance offered to put us up in a hotel, but we asked if they'd pay campsite fees instead. We had only just returned from a 4 week stay at the same site the week before. we stayed in the caravan with youngest son 8 , while our 17 &19 yrold boys stayed in the tent with their gfs. Downside was it put us off and we didn't bother camping at all the next year.

6 weeks, when the kids were on school, holidays and i was on a 3 day week I worked 12 miles from home and there was a site 3 miles from where i worked seemed silly to travel so far ,so we camped all the holidays, just kept  popping home to collect the mail, the weather was great. When we came home the neighbours thought we'd been abroad we were that tanned
