Join the c+cc a better class of camper. tho i have noticed a slight increase in snob motorhome +caravan owners on our club sites. I dont think they understand the ethos of a camping holiday. It does get my back up that District associations organise meetings on sites with no showers or toilets at the exclusion of those who choose canvas over wheeled tin lined chipboard, but until we the tenters start being more vocal about what we expect from clubs and campsites then this small minority will. continue to annoy . Tolerate+Pity them sitting in their tin cans they might as well sit on their own front gdns ignoring the world. only leaving their armchairs to empty toilet cartridges+ to collect water for washing+sanitation.

I prefer the C+CC sites well run, friendly and helpful site wardens. when my sunncamp sport was torn to bits by force 8 gale july 2008 at the St Davids site. fellow campers and the wardens malcolm +shirley couldnt do enough to help me.

Plus 24 hr hot water no charges for showering why do we persist with sites that charge for showers, windbreaks even no of chairs outside of tents. If we tenters withdrew our custom from such sites would they be a loss to the world of camping. Lets start using our clout

As an ex caravan builder a friend of mine told me of an old coach built  caravan that was for sale, but it needed a lot of renovating to bring it up to scratch. I spent 2 years on it , and it looked like new when I'd finished  . We decided to go to a CC site near Stratford on Avon. Although not members we booked in for 2 weeks ,and turned up with our immaculate, as new ,Roya'l 1971 van. We were told that our old van could only be pitched way out of sight  around the back although the site was only 1/2 full and there were pitches much better placed for the amenities. We were told these pitches were booked , but for the 2 weeks we were there, were never used  but the atitude of the site staff towards us was like we were new age travellers. A lot of caravaners took an interest in our van but no way would i join the CC .They only want modern vans to make the sites look good.Best of luck to them. We joined the C&CC,and have always been treated well by the friendly club. We didn't want to sell the van , but someone offered us a price we couldn't refuse and went back to tenting, the best move we ever made

Blimey!  This post just goes to show how many "Tin Tenters" actually keep an eye out on the "Camping under canvas" section! (Is this tent envy of some sort?  )

I am not personally a member of either club (although may join the C & CC at some point), but feel that I must point out what seems to be the obvious, and that is that the subject matter refers to the Caravan Club, surely this was set up for those who prefer their outdoor holidays on a set of wheels! Never the less, wherever you go these days, there almost always seems to be some sort of obnoxious jobs worth out to spoil our perceptions of politeness and manners (especially from those with little or no subject matter knowledge).

There will always be friendly banter on these posts between canvas and tin tenters, but surely that is all it is? As a person who prefers the canvas (well, Ok Nylon !) option, I have mostly had experience of meeting caravanners who are as helpful and friendly as most campers on these threads are. This is why for the majority of tent campers it seems that the C & CC is the right option.
