Hi

Does any one know of firms or folk that rent out all you need to go camping in say Iceland for a fortnight ??

Hi borderschat, welcome to another Borderer.

If you don't already have the kit then I would assume that you probably do not have a lot of camping experience.  Iceland is an awfully long way to go to find out that you have the wrong kit, you have forgotten something, or even that you don't enjoy camping for such a long period or in poor weather conditions.

I would suggest buying some basic gear, which need not be expensive, and get used to it by camping for a few weekends in various weather conditions before venturing that far afield for two weeks.

I should imagine it is possible to rent the equipement on a site in the country you are visiting, as you can in France. Then I should expect gear to be appropriate for the climate etc.

It obviously depends on whether you wish to tour or visit other countries. Sounds exciting though!.

Hi there borderschat - yes, Andy Woodward at http://www.antarcticatents.co.uk/contact.htm hires kit for cold places! My son went on a BSES expedition to Greenland and Andy was a great help - mention Will Barstow and I know he will help you as much as he can.

He's a long way from the Scottish borders though - but worth a try in the first place because he might well know someone closer to your home.

& its not that cold & theres loads of people do it

there's a road all the way round the island & lots of places to camp, i know a friend who did it last year on a motorbike & was amazed how many families were doing it with there pickups & big tents

just a pity its light just about 24hrs a day !!
