hi, we are going camping for the first time this easter and wanted to know how to heat the inside of the tent as we have 3 girls and 1 toddler so we need to keep them warm first thing in morning and at night time.

any advice will be greatfully receved thanks steve.

Hi Judy

EHU is an electricity suppy provided by the campsite you are going to. It will allow you to use electrical items such as a heater in your tent. Without EHU you will need to think of other types of heater, maybe gas powered. There have been a great many threads relating to this if you do a search.

We camped for the 1st time last Easter without EHU, and I got loads of advice from threads on this forum. It seems to me that the main thing is to try to go to bed warm - we boiled up water for hot water bottles which we wrapped PJs round before putting them into the sleeping bags, and I made us all Hot Chocolate (but then regretted it at 3am when I had to go to the loo!)  If you dont mind the crumpled look you could also try putting clean clothes for the morning in the bottom of the sleeping bags and perform contortions to get dressed, but in all honesty it was me and OH who were shivering - the boys seemed immune to the cold!

Those plastic backed picnic mats on the floor are great for a bit of warmth.  I don't have  ground sheet, but find these great for the kids to sit on, or as a bit of warmth underfoot.  They have the advantage of your being able to chuck them in the washing machine when you get home - ideal when you have kids.

I have a Sunngas heater which I find ideal for taking the chill off the tent in the morning and evening.

Fleecy blankets are great for wrapping around you.   We have an assortment of car blankets, pram blankets and even a couple of pet blankets.  If need be we wrap them around us when we're sitting in/outside the tent.

Hi - we're planning our first trip this Easter too.  I don't do 'cold' - especially when I'm trying to sleep so after months (literally!) of research on this site I got an EHU and I'm going to get a couple of little electric skirting heaters (Argos).  A number of people on this site have recommended them, especially for 'nylon' tents. They put them on in the sleeping pods before bedtime to prewarm them and then have them on a thermostat overnight.  Something else people have recommended are fleece sleeping bag liners, wearing thermals and a wooly hat in bed (sexy!). So many people have also said - try not to get too cold in the first place as it's more difficult to warm up again than to stay warm.  Plus the good old fashioned hot water bottie - as already mentioned by others
