At the end of the day we all go camping because we enjoy it.  If I don't like the prices a site is charging I will go elsewhere.  I won't spend my holiday trawling around the other units measuring the space they've used and the price they've paid.  To a certain extent this whole issue is self policing.  If sites overcharge they won't get used.

sorry rex but by some of your comments, give me the opinion that you don't have much idea of the actual costs, facts etc of running a site put those overheads at between, 40% and 60 % depending.

For information there are way to many tent manufacturers to 'have a list of all' we'd spend all day looking at a list, the majority of tents are not necessarily 'family tents'..... plus I disagree that some know the make as a fact is that they don't!  And yes guy ropes shouldn't take up anymore space if spaced correctly, but then you also have to take account of the car or 4x4 - significantly different in size, windbreak, huge BBQ, room to actually move etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc the kitchen sink etc etc etc etc all to get on that pitch.

Costs are not only attributed to grass which incidently doesn't just take care of itself and your suggestions would be most appreciated if you can solve the problem of grass die-ing when in long periods of use ( 5nights) - we don't have the luxury of the space to rotate pitches when busy and that's with boundered pitches and legal spacing,

Then again nor do the toilets clean themselves, cleaning products time to clean, damages that occur get paid for, electric bills for park lighting, refuse collection ( people like sometimes to use parks as the local tip!) the list could go on but I have better things to do.

what can I say at this stage is ask our customers, and do your research into the actual costs of running a site - are we fair?  do we try to do the best for our customers? have we not put too much money to count (returns on investment about 20 years before we take a wage from the site!) into our park to make it nice for our customers, your answer maybe well don't put the money in if you can't get it back - but isn't that your very issue.....  I can't put my prices up to cover the costs so what do I do - CLOSE.....  I think not.

Anyway I have to now go and clean toilets and run my business otherwise we don't get to eat this week. unless there are any volunteers for the loos.......

Thought not

Please do NOT tar every site owner with the same brush..... and our pitch sizes can be found on our website on the prices page in meters and feet!

Liz

Hi

The problem with this thread if a site owner answers they are taken to task because they are not in agreement with your argument Rex. If a person wants to use a site they will do no matter what the cost is and there are many sites to choose from.

If anyone has a complaint about a site take it up with the site owners not lamblast on a public forum whae most cases only get one side of the story.

Jakers has answered on the forum honestly as she sees it and all you have done is gone back to your point of view.

Camping would be not the same if you did not have the variation of sites and owners.

cheers

steve

Jakers

I made almost the same points as you in a thread which was running alongside this one.  See here  I wasn't about to repeat all that I had typed in another similar thread, so it doesn't appear here.

I'm not a campsite owner so couldn't be precise in my points but I just used common sense to look at some of the problems that site owners have.

Earlier in this thread I said:

I think (from what has been said in many other threads on this topic) that they would get verbally lynched if they responded to this thread.   One site owner can't speak for the hundreds that are out there - and we shouldn't expect them to.  It would be like a rep from Colemans responding to complaints about Outwell, Vango or the other tent manufacturers.

I'm sure that many people understand that you are running your site to the best of your ability for the benefit of your customers and to (eventually) make a living from it - or at least get some return on your investment.

Hi again liz.
Nice to have you back. Costs they are for you as a site owner to set if they are more than we can afford we will go elsewhere all i say is a fair price for what you offer.

Pitch sizes are what concern me. Camping under canvas is one of the few holidays low income families can afford and for site to charge these people more because they have a standard tent is in my opinion unethical and greedy.

I do not Tar no one. I all ways use the saying (if the cap fits ware it) Most sites are run very well and for you to come onto the forum I am sure yours is also.

People are paying for a holiday to enjoy their time off work an let their children run free in a safe environment, not to come to a site to be packed in like a refugee camp like some sites do in high season.
If the C&C Club can run first class sites for tents with first class services. then other site must be able to do it also, and they are making millions each year.

It is no good getting upset about the work it takes to run a site we know what as to be done, that is called running a business, it is how some proprietors go about it that we question on here.

Please do not take this as a slur on your site, what I have seen of the UKCS reviews they all speak well and rate you highly

I have checked your site pitch size and you should be congratulated, and if all sites operated the way you do
We would have nothing to complain about. the size you accept will comfortably fit all standard family tents,
And prices are fair by today standards.
All you will need now is a list of the oversize tents

Thank you for participating in our discussion on whether
site owners read this forum.
Best regards
Rex

I agree completely, and think this thread has run it's course as far as I am concerned, so will bring it to an end now. Thank you to Rex, and everyone else, and especially Jakers, who has contributed.
Cheers!
Ian
