hi every 1 been on here for a week now u all seem like a lovely lot of people i have something i would like your opinion on.

my son has aspurgus syndrome and a.d.h.d he loves to go camping and enjoys it very much. The problem is that when we first arrive he can get a bit unsettled this is because he,s had a change to his routine .He will have a outburst were he will swear and get a bit aggresive .Once he done this he calms down and we can all get on with the holiday.

What would you think if you were to witness this?

As i offten think OMG what must they think.

Hiya,

My son is prone to tantrums because he is autistic.  Normally I just get on with it but if he is particularly loud (especially at night) I will explain all to my neighbours and usually people are very understanding and tolerant.

Just go fot it I say.

I would think we are not alone.  Our youngest son is Autistic and ADHD.  Once we've met our neighbours I tend to explain about his difficulties as some of his behaviours or some what odd and inappropriate, plus he can be a bit of a runner when things aren't going his way so I think the more people around that know of his difficulties the more people might think twice if he was on his own and escaped.

If we knew about the difficulties we would be VERY understanding. We would even offer to keep an eye on the person if ever needed.

This is why we choose to go camping, people are so friendly and understanding.  I love to be able to sit outside the tent and watch as the children play cricket or football with the other campers.  We stayed at one place and we had nearly all the children in our field outside our tent as we organised different races.  Quite often are youngest won't actually join in but he is happy to find his own spot with his thomas trains and plays and hums on his own and more often than not another child will come over to him.

On the whole i think people would be very understanding! Although you shouldn't have to, i would suggest you do as others have said and explain to your neighbours that your son has problems. Hopefully it will take the pressure off you and help you to relax a bit more if your not worried about what others think! Really hope you go away and enjoy yourselves

A brief explanation to your neighbours, and I'm sure help and a watchful eye would be there, we all have our problems and are all there to help each other.  That's what we enjoy about camping it's one big heappy communty in it together!!

We are camping near Barmouth in the May holidays with two girls (9/4) and you are welcome to pitch next to us if you are interested. You would be made most welcome. We all think our kids are dreadful in Tescos/the shoe shop/whatever but I have always found we think our kids are more embarrassing than anyone else does - that's just being parents!

I'd speak to the immediate neighbours. By and large I think the camping community is more relaxed and accepting than most places.

hello di

since i'll be pitched next to you don't worry to much. i'll prob moan for an hour about the pitch, then i'll moan about the sleepless nights. then i'll moan about the cooking, then i'll moan about dishes, then the toilets then the flies, then the weather and everyone will be so fed up of me moaning they will have all gone home before my darling nephew manages to throw one of his famous fried egg seeking tantrums.

love ya

trilly x x x x

I wouldn't have an issue at all.  My cousin is autistic and lives with my Mum and Grandma, who are keen caravanners. Up until recently,  they have been too worried to take him camping but he absolutely loves it.  It enriches his life and that of my Mum and Grandma too as they can share a common interest.  Personally, I think that most people will understand and if not a quick word should ensure that they do.  We never seem to encounter people having a problem with James, even when he does sometimes struggle with situations. Good Luck and I hope you have some great holidays.
