Never been camping before - first time when weather gets warmer. We have 4 dogs - a German Shepherd, two collies and a tinsy winsy yorkshire terrier. A little bit nervous wondering how it will all go, tent;s big enough, sleeping quarters for the dogs (camping cages) and yet to buy a dog tether. Does anybody know how efficient these tether things are? A bit worried about the dogs suddenly barking at unusual noises etc ooooh worry!
hi there we have a 14 stone newfoundland we have took him caravaning and camping from being a pup . best advice is make sure you dog/ pup as adiquite training and listens to your comands take toys and loads off walks wind breaks are good idea not to be rude in anyway or segrate from other campers as to protect other campers privacy not all people are dog lovers and we cant expect them to be so you can keep the dog with in your area . always always they must be on a lead or rope with in your area not so to be long enough to wonder on to some one else s pitch we use the two ball but only enough to keep with in our pitch and then use your wind breaks to settle them down and be free to walk with in the tent area
apply common sense big breeds frighten people with children and thats to be expected edward is the size off a donkey ask ssix he will tell you lol . he loves people and children so much but we let people come to us and believe you me they do . we do not push him onto peolple its not fare so always keep that in mind just because you love them not all do . use the dog walking area and CLEAN UP its a must train them not to bark do not alow it thats a must the odd bark yes but not barking all the time people are on holiday if they wont comply with your training you dont take them i am afraid . we have had large breads all our lifes great danes 6 wich to off them were qaulified for crufts after our last dane past away with cancer there was no other dane like him . we did some research and a newfy it was and boy he is our life . so at the end off the day you are the boss and you inforce the rules and you can edward is trained to drop to the floor to let a small dog past denise
he should love it as they are such lovely natured dogs, all i would say is watch them in early evening and morning if any rabbits around, and also dont have the leads to long on the dog spikes as you know how quickly they can start to run fast.

We take 2 Rottwielers. They love it, seem to be depressed when we come home.
Never had any problems, as they are not "barkie" dogs, and are V.friendly.
The only issue that we have had for this year is that a few sites we have contacted have refused to take us because of them.
We have a Rottie too. Ours is like yours and doesn't bark. She's more likely to lick you to death than bite you. It's so unfair that sites have refused you just because they believe the hype. Any rottie owners/fan know that these dogs are super friendly and love a cuddle.
I take my St. Bernard "sherbet". He's only 12 months old but took him from 5 months old to get him used too it. By 7 months i was getting up during night and coming back to find him climbed into my sleeping bag. After a few beers not easy trying to stand on airbed and drag a big fluffy puppy out of your sleeping bag. Last weekend camping of the year he punctured my bed. Wife and two kids sleep in 1 bedroom and i have him in the other. First camping trip of year next month will be very interesting.
We are hoping to take our two Weimaraners camping later on in the year.
Unfortuatley the youngest is a barker so we will have to try and sort that, may even go and just walk them around some sites during the day to try and get him used to the sights and sounds
Years ago we took a Weimaraner and a Cavlier King Charles Spaniel camping on a few occasions, they were great for keeping you warm.
Our lakeland terriers would just about make a snack for some of your dogs! Still great for snuggling up with though, and take up a lot less room in the car..
We used to take our GSD/collie cross Max in the caravan last year but this year it's a tent for us.
Max is coming and our new dog Molly too. She's a GSD/Japanese Akita cross so is getting big and is immensely strong.
We've never has 2 dogs before and it's quite a handful, but as you say the problem is keeping people, especially kids, away from the dogs. My dogs love our kids but I don't like strangers round them - someone could get hurt. (The dogs I mean )
Just wondering where they will sleep? Have bought a big car so I think we will try an extra large crate for travelling and sleeping. Though I suspect they will end up in bed with the kids.
Max loved it last year, fresh air and outdoors all day - doggie heaven.
I take two Bouviers, they are fine (although one is a bit of an escapologist!). I started them off quite young, so now they love it - but that might be coz they meet their doggie friends!
I tend to take a stake and shortish lead; and use wind breaks, large dogs especially two, can scare people, even though mine are very friendly.
