How do you get it bag in the bag, that is a question so many new and old hand campers experience. It has lead to so many family disagreements and fallouts trying to get the tent bag in the bag, it always seems to be twice as large. Your certainly not alone, and going bye seeing others on the campsites with the same problem. Frustration builds up and nothing seems to work, then the rain comes on. We have all been there and done it.
Try and get it as square shape as possable to the size of the bag, each fold get out all the air even sit on it etc. Then when you roll it up or fold it up take your time and just squeeze out all the air bit by bit, then with a bit of luck you may have itthe right size to fit the bag. We always have another bag just incase also for when its wet. Good luck on you next time out have patents we have all been there and on occasions still have the same problem.
Our new vermont has now sat halfway out of the bag since Sunday having just failed to get the folding right after a test pitch. Going away tomorrow so about to start trying to refold - in our living room - so it'll go in the car!
The Price less shoe shops have huge holdalls on wheels for a tenner, bigger than most tent bags, if you really cant get it back in the original bag get one of these. I will admit to not putting the poles back in the original bag on some tents, though, if they come with a little sack of their own, its just remembering to take the poles as well ttats the problem, or remembering which poles go with which tent.

When we had a ground tent I kept the doors zipped then its ready for puting up next trip out. Then when you have have the tent flat on the ground fold in the sides untll its the same width as your bag (don't guess, get the bag on measure it against the width of the tent ) then on your knees roll the tent as tight as you can, should it start to roll wider than the bag fold it in as you go ( i always found this to be easier as a two person job) then making sure someone brings the bag to the rolled up tent pop it into the bag. I was shown this the first time I went camping and its never failed me. Good Luck.
People evrywhere, campers gathers, hear me, hear this, 4happycampers solution works a treat!!
I rolled out the Hartford in the 4ft x 4ft study today (no mean feat!) and squared it to the bag size and wrestled that bum (have you ever seen an upturned wood lice?) into the bag. Well done that man. Worked a treat. It'll be interesting in the rain though! I doff my tammy.
i put ------- tried to erect a new tent we havent used yet ------ we want to get a van but havent found one yet ----- though i did get the tent back in the bag.
When I was new to this forum I came on here to ask how to put my tent back in it's bag, alot of people said get a bigger bag (not really practical when your trying to fit all your equipment into a Matiz!) Unfortunatly practise is the best method of getting your tent back in it's bag.
Here are my tips.
I am for rolling its fun and it gets rid of the air.
Make sure that you have got the bag which it has got to fit back into to hand fold everything the same width, slightly smaller than the width of the bag (use bag to judge).
As someone else said the squarer everything is the easier to fit in the bag.
I have genrally found 3rds to be the most effective folding method ( if you have an odd shape atempt to make it as rectangle as possible before folding in to 3rds).
Flysheet, ground sheet and bedrooms piled up making sure all match up at one end together. Roll for good measure
Add poles/pegs to end your rolling from (end with matched up tent) then roll, tie and gently slip bag over tent!
