This is just an example .our montana 6 measures roughly 6x4 meters and i should say all sites should take this as standard, however Haven ask you to call them if your unit is over 21 foot.A site i went on last week would accept the monty but not the nebraska. Also some sites will charge you double for two pitches. At the end of the day it is up to the site but you should still buy your choice of tent to fit you and your familys comfort.Would you like to be cooped up in something you could not move about in with two children in the british weather?Always call the site first and check or look on there web page .Some sites charge a little extra for different birth tents.Hope this helps
Hi nsp
You will be accepted on the vast majority of camping site with that tunnel tent, You may get a problem on the odd site who's pitches are small so always telephone with the size of your tent before you go, and discuss the size when booking.
The site regulations of the UK do not set a max or minimum size they just state the required safety distance a site must leave between units. they are Tents that the occupants
are known to each other can be pitched 2 meters apart for up to five tents the sixth tent must be 6 meters away.
For tents were the occupants are not known to each other then they mus be at least 3 meters apart, and this is continues. All tents are required to have a six meter gap between a caravan or motor home.
Hope that helps

Hi, I think the camping and caravan club site pitches have a max 'unit' (tent to you and me!) width of 5m, there isn't a max length but units longer than 7.62m need to check with the individual site. Pitches are 11m square and a 3m gap needs to be left on either side to minimise fire hazards. Happy purchasing!
hi ive just been to trawsdir barmouth so our new tent would have been over cos its 7.7m in l there pitches are 7x7m but we are booked to go east fleet at weymouth there pitches are 8x6m we got tigris 600 but want to upgrade to vermont l but then you start thinking will i have to pay extra which i think is mad cos u have to pay extra for kids dogs cars we are family of 4 but we need bigger tent cos kids are getting towards being teenagers they need more room
The pitch size thing drives me crazy especially when it's a site supposedly geared to families which is obviously going to attract families with family size tents and then they say no tents over 5-6m. Don't these site owners see what tents are on the market? Our tent is about 5.5x6.5m and I think that's a normal family size tent. It's disappointing when you find a good site and then see that you can't stay there because of the tent size. In saying that, we stayed at a Haven site (not really what I'd term a good site!) last year and our tent was probably over the pitch size but I just lied about the size and no one checked and there was plenty room (if arriving mid-week).
tents do seem to have blown up in size over the past few years.
I sometimes feel a bit hard done by when I have to pay the same as someone with a massive great big tunnel tent, while I'm only in a tiny dome tent.
There are, however, many sites that have pricing structures that are fair to ALL campers.
If you have a bigger tent you should be prepared to pay a little extra to pitch it. But to charge someone double, or any other exorbitant fees is just plain wrong.
I liked the way they did things in France. All pitches were separated by hedges, but they weren't all the same size. You simply drove around & picked he pitch for you. (unless it was really busy, then you got what you were given!)

They still do it that way and isn't that simple and straightforward? Saves all the hassle you read about on here about the British sites - and extras are fine as long as they fit on the pitch.
Just 1 of the many reasons I prefer to camp over there.
I know, I used the wrong tense (tents?). I was only over there last year. I liked their system. You pay for the pitch, then you pay for the people etc etc.
Can be a bit confusing at first.
The French don't seem to have adopted the English taste for over-sized tents though. They still like the old fashioned frame tents, which always seemed to do us fine "back in the day". But they have straight(er) sides, so less wasted space, therefore smaller pitch, I suppose. I've never seen the attraction with tunnel tents personally. Although that's not to say there aren't some bloody huge frame tents; my brother's trailer tent, when set up with all the add-ons is enormous! It was called a "hotel" last time we put it up!
They vary so much in size these days but you shouldnt really have any problems with the Nevada, width seems more critical than lenngth these days, im talking tents here, our Vermont is bigger than the Nevada and never had any problems with that.

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
We have come across a site that has a maximum size of 6m x 6m INCLUDING guys! My little 4 berth Licata 400 wouldn't fit on that!
C&CC pitch size can accept a maximum tent size of 5m x 9m - anything larger and you would need to book a jumbo pitch (extra cost and not available at all sites)
Length doesn't seem to be too much of an issue but tents over 5m wide and those that are X or Y shaped can encounter problems due to their very large footprint. Tunnel tents seem to make the best use of rectangular, marked out pitches.
At 650cm x 365cm, the Nevada XL shouldn't cause any problems. We have the Khyam Ontario 8 and that measures 750cm x 370cm and we have never had any problems getting on a site and have never been charged for 2 pitches.

That is ridiculous! Could be a site that doesn't want families or even couples...

Hi just booked into a site for the end of June. for my first stay in my outwell vermont L. And was told that a standard site is 8x5 so when I asked what about the car and trailer on the pitch they said no problem so is 8x 5 just the tent????

I'm facing this problem as I'm looking to get the front awning for my Monty 6 but this would make the tent "silly long" according to haven/parks
Haven Lakeland have stated "we will not take tents of that size, Whether the thent is this size or you have an awning or extension. Most people just dont have a tent that size sir so it wouldn't be fair on others to allow you to have this on our site"
I told the fella on the other end of the phone to look on this site and that alot of people had bigger footprints. I though I bought a big tent but all I want to do is make it bigger haha
