having moved recently from the comfort of my parents fairly large house, to an apartment of our own, im now starting to panic. How on earth can you dry a tent of that size when you don't have the space. Was thinking in my ideal world mind that maybe there was a facility somewhere where you could dry a tent out for a small fee, but have been unable to find such a venue.
Surley we cant be the only people with this issue, any suggestions/solutions?
Regards
Ben

Have a similar problem as have small back yard which won't accomadate a 7 metre tent. Started to panic tonight as going camping in the morning for 5 days after a 5 month break and got tent out tonight for first time. Was pretty concerned as was put away damp and just forgot about it! Everything looks ok but will have to put up with the tent smelling a bit musty I think. Have rolled it all out and hung over the back of doors etc to give it a bit of an airing but will be a bit more careful this year I think.
If all else fails - put the tent up in the nearest park for a couple of hours on a dry day. I did this to weather the tent when I first bought it. You get a few off stares - but what the heck - take a book and a bottle of wine and spend the afternoon in the sun!
The tent doesn't need to be spread out to dry (but it'll dry faster if it is). What you need is airflow around the tent.
So take it out of the bag and leave it loosely scrunched up in the corner of a room. Once a day you'll need to turn the tent, so the bit on the inside of the "scrunch" moves to the outside and visa versa.
Nowhere near as good as hanging the tent up, but infinately better than leaving it in the bag to rot.
HTH
You could try hanging it over the stair banister, we have done that on a couple of occasions, just move it about every couple of hours. Heat rises so it dries really quick.
We have the same problem too as live in a very small flat. Not even room to leave scrunched up in the corner of the room as that's taken up with guitars, cat's toys and stuff. We have sometimes left it in the back of OH's van as there's quite a lot of room, and rotated it as mentioned above.
We have also draped our tent over the car in the car park outside flat in the past in the sun (when possible). But of course you have to keep an eye on it and can't really leave it... i like the park, book and bottle of wine idea myself.. (or beer in our case)... LOL..
I have draped a large flysheet for a 12man tent, over sofa and chairs, and hung bits over the top of lounge door before going to bed, put the heating on and its all been dry in the morning.
Not much help if you live in flat, but My sis had a staircase with a bannister she used to hang her canvas tent over it to dry. Or you can drape it down the stairs overnight if you haven't got kids who will trip over it.
as long as the air is able to get at it,lay as much of it out as you can and keep turning it, it will dry pretty fast.
You could ask at your local community centre or church hall if they would let you pitch it overnight to dry it for a donation to their funds?
Does your block of flats have a big boiler room at the botom? Get friendly with the caretaker and ask if you can hang it in there. Or be very nice to the janitor at your local school, as they usually have a big room with the boiler in. Or any other large building!

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Thanks all for the advice, we are going away shortly, so will take the outwell oregon, but we will explore the possibility of the community centre idea, as unfortunatley we live in a brand new development so no horror movie boiler room to dry the diablo out in,
though you have all shown us that we dont need to lose our vango just yet!

Try your local Scout group i'm sure they would love a donation as funds are always low and they aren't usually full 5 nights a week therefore as long as it's gone before the kids arrive we certainly wouldn't mind (only we're up north). You can find your local group on www.scoutbase.org.uk
