.....going to be using EHU for the first time at the end of May - I understand (it's taken a while!!) that I need to get a low-watt fan heater to keep warm, and that if I plug in the heater I should unplug the kettle - but what about if I want to dry my hair using my hairdryer?  Should I unplug everything else just to be sure I don't trip the campsite?!

Many thanks,

Joteddy

PS - also I have a question about a roof box we have ordered - should this be posted in this area or somewhere else?  thanks again!

Hi jo, To be on the safe side , generally only use one heat producing appliance at one time. So, yes, use your hairdryer with the heater off.

Roofbox question should be posted on the equipment section

What about coling products - can I use a coolbox and a kettle at the same time? Or a coolbox and a heater come to that! (sorry to jump aboard the thread like this!)

Check the wattage for example a fan heater is say 1000 watts so divide this by 230

= 4.2 amps

An EHU it should be 10 amps tho some are 6.

Just work out what your using and unplug as necessary. We can have the heating on at 2000 watts &, TV on at same time if I'm going to dry my hair or put kettle on the turn the heating down to 1000 or 500

Theres a post on here somewhere that lists all equipment and its amps.

hope this helps

You can take straighteners no probs as long as you haven't got too many things going at once.

I can't work out all the amps and things, but the fridge is always left on and a light if neccesary , just don't use kettle and toaster  or heater together, always trips it.

Switch off heater, Boil kettle first, then make toast, then reboil kettle, for tea and toast together, then put heater back on if neccesary.

heater's only on overnight mainly and for a quick warm up in the morning. you don't usually need heater on in daytime in normal spring/ summer camping.

Hairdryer or straighteners will ususally be okay used at the same time as fridge and light

Each of you appliances will have a watts rating on it, on a plate or label affixed to it. Then use the table above to work out the amps, if the total is more than the site EHU then you will have to unplug items.
