Hi all I was wondering how you all go about security when you leave your tent.

I realize you can put your stuff in the car but that’s a pain.

So as im new to camping I would like to know any things you mite do or give advice on this matter thanks for reading and all the best

We do put tables and chairs etc inside if we go out for the day, just to stop them causing damage to other peoples tents if a high wind comes up. Seen this happen once, flying gazebos and chairs  are very dangerous in a freak wind.

Everything else gets left in the tent, zipped up. Obviously don't leave cameras phones or money in the tent, but all other equipment just stays in there.

Camping is very safe on the whole, talking to your neighbours gives you a good idea what their like, and campers will look out for each other, when they know the occupants are out for the day. Only once in 10 years camping I have heard of theft on site, when someone had expensive fishing gear stolen from outside their tent.

never heard of anyone nicking your cooker or stuff like that.

We dont leave anything of value in the tent - i.e. Mobiles, laptop, DSes or anything like that.  The only time anything has been taken from us was a Barbque cover that we got from the pound shop that conveniently fit over our cooker stand,  that was at the flower of may site in Scarborough a few years back, but in saying that it could quite easily have blown away in the wind, so no major harm done.   My only advice to you is be sensible about what you take away with you, and camping is as safe as any other holiday you would go on (Although im sure others will say its safer)

We have never had any problems with security when camping and have certainly never heard of anyone having anything stolen...............unless you count the four tent pegs we had taken when we stayed at Pooley Bridge. We think that was teenagers acting daft though.

We put all our items inside when we go out for the day, cooker, chairs etc and take any valuables such as cameras, mobile phones etc with us.

To be honest though, camping is pretty safe.

yeah we either take valuables with us or lock them in the car - I know you think its a pain, but a takes a matter of seconds to do and would be my preferred alternative to having them stolen!!!

Hi waspsting.
In a life time of camping, I honestly cannot ever remember having anything stolen from any type of unit we have used. We leave table and chairs out, washing drying, and the radio on low, with the top of the doors open under the canopies
but we never use big commercial sites.
Rex.

Hi

On the whole id agree with all the other posts been campers for last 20 odd years never had anything stolen .....more likely to have stuff pinched from my garden. So dont worry!!! less of a pain opening the car than triying to replace valuable items id say .
