Hi Heathman and welcome to the site.

What is/are your concerns?

If it is about weathering the tent then this may help a little. We bought a Bear Lake and went camping with it for the first time last week. We didn't have chance to weather it beforehand and while we were away we had a few light showers and one heavy downpour .... no sign of any leaking. I have read a thread where others have had the same good fortune. Of course this is no guarantee that your tent will be water-tight first time, but there is a fairly decent chance. Good luck!

Pauline.

Just re-read the thread title. Haven't seen the Trout Lake but the Bear Lake just oooozes quality. I suspect will be similar as from the same 'Lake' range ??

Weathering is for canvas frame tents. When they get wet for the first time the canvas shrinks onto the frame so that it fits nicely.  As the canvas shrinks it also closes the gaps in the threads making the material waterproof.

The Outwell Lakes are polycoton and don't need weathering.

The Outwell pollycotton tents just ooze quality.  The chances of there being a fault is very small - but I still wouldn't go too far away from home the first time, just in case.

At the NEC show we were advised that the tent needed weather beforehand for this reason. That's why I was bit cautious about not having done it before our first trip.

Have just looked on the Outwell website and can't find anything to say it should be weathered beforehand but did come across this ... "Outtex Airtech Fabric is designed to make your tent more comfortable to live especially on those hot days. The woven fabric has a water repellent coating on the outside to allow droplets to form and run off the tent then as the rain gets heavier the fabric closes up and seals itself to become waterproof." ... which hopefully explains why we didn't have any leaks despite not weathering before we went.

It will be interesting to see if anyone has had a leaking 'Lake' tent due to not weathering

Pauline.

Hi there! The only quality issues I have ever read on here regarding the Lake tents are last year, when a couple of people reported problems with zipping the front door shut on the Bear Lake 6! As far as I know there haven't been any problems with leaks!

We have loved our Norfolk Lake but have decided to downsize, and at the moment the Outwell Lakes are the only replacement we would consider! Rest assured that you have bought a quality tent, and in the unlikely event that you do run into problems, Yeomans are a reputable firm known for their customer service!

Enjoy your new tent!!!

Another vote for the Lake range - we have Wolf Lake. Fantastic tent.

Lentrott's comment on Bear Lake door interests me.  We have had a similar issue with the Wolf.  When mentioned to Yeomans they seemed aware of this & said this was due to the drying process when making tent as its overdried & should loosen up with use??

You've made a good purchase there. enjoy.

Outwell and the Lake tents are quality. You just have to go to a display and compare them to others.
