Hi all,

Just unpacked and tested our new Royal Bordeaux 6 in the back garden to discover it has a small hole. We bought in in September but between moving house and rubbish weather only got it out on Sunday night.

I rang and emailed the supplier who suggested I send it back for them to look at it and discuss with the manufacturers. It will cost quite a bit to send it off and quite a bit to send it back if they decide not to accept our word.

I need advice on whether a good fix to the groundsheet would be ok and if so what would be reccommended. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Beetroot George

If you are considering repairing it I would suggest you pitch the tent and check it has no other faults/leaks before doing anything else.

Of course only you can decide if the fault warrants returning the tent or not.  It could be repaired with 'Tenacious tape', a clear waterproof repair tape.

For holes in the groundsheet use duct tape...a piece on each side. It will hold for years if you round off the corners a bit.Tenacious tape is good for flysheets  but I've never tried it on a groundsheet.

I do agree about checking the tent over very well before deciding to attempt repairs however. Repairs will invalidate the warrenty.

How big is the hole, btw? And isn't the Royal Bordeaux 6  a ZIG rather than a SIG tent? Sending just the groundsheet back would presumably be cheaper.

I had an accident with our SIG only this weekend, we had the coleman black cat heater on and I decided to move it and it fell over, of course it has burned a small hole in the ground sheet.  My OH has just repaired it, he used a puncture repair kit and cut out a small piece of the bag that the tent pegs came in cos it is the same material, he glued it patched it on the inside and outside - you cant tell (unless you look closely).  But again check for any further damage before doing anything.
