My Wife, three children and myself are new to camping and purchased our first tent during the summer of last year. (If you can call it a Summer). However we spent 10 days under canvas in Devon and totally enjoyed every second. Mind you my wife does like her home comforts so very suprised. The tent we have is a Hartford XXL which has a centre dome and 4 bedroom areas coming off, but those experianced campers would know that.

We all loved it so much that we intend to go as much as possible during the Season, the only worry we have is that the youngest is only two (next week) and we are considering a heater of some sort for the colder nights. We are not keen on a gas heater and we would loke an electric type. Do anybody have any recommendations? We did see an electric fan heater in Wilkinsons, but not sure if this would be suitable.

Any help would be appreciated.

We use an oil filled radiator in the awning. I know what you mean about home comforts. We bought a caravan because of this but I still love camping.

The fan heater is ideal. It can be left on low throughout the day and will eradicate condensation aswell.

Never underestimate the power of the humble hot water bottle. My partners young lad, and the dog, love them, especially when it's time to snuggle down into the sleeping bags.

We have a greenhouse heater. It`s a fan heater that is drip and condensation proof. It is a thermostatic heater so it turns itself on and off and it had a safety cut out in case it is knocked over. It also acts as a fan in hot weather, It is one of the best things we have bought.

if you use ehu then a fan heater is great and safe. we also use a electric bar heater which is designed for camping so if it gets knocked over it switches off. whilst this is good i would not recommend if you have small children. fan heaters are great.

We have hust bought an Outwell Heater from GO Outdoors, tried it at the weekend and it was really good, has a trip switch on the bottom to turn it off should it fall over has a good thermostat which worked well heater came on automatically when the temp dropped below the setting, two heat settings 750w and 1500w also blows cool if it's warm.

Last year we bought a tesco value fan heater (if you have electric) It was fantastic they are on offer for £5 at the mo.  Best thing we ever bought.  My 3year old had bad asthma and the damp camping kills him in bad weather and this kept him toasty and warm. we have a big tent and even with the bedrooms sealed it kept the rooms warm!  wont go camping withut it!

We bought a fan heater from Argos as we already had an EHU.

We camp with 3 young children (our youngest was 9 monthes when we first got the heater) and two collie dogs so made sure it had a cut off switch if knocked over.

On cold nights we have it on med-low in the centre of tent and it keeps the cold out and the tent dry.

Ideal

We're going camping in September this year, there is no EHU at the site, what do you recommend?

Hi Bon and morgaine
As the lake is a breathable tent, Towsure sell a 2Kw Parabolic heater that screws into a 4Kg calor bottle.
This will give you all the heat you will need,
Cost £23+p&p and you will require the refillable gas bottle,
Not recommended to keep on all night due to fire risk.
But from now until October you will not need it on at night.
Gas is not good to heat the nylon tent as it causes condensation you would have to leave the top of a door open if you use gas,
Regards
Rex
