Following on from a previous thread about mending a SIG.
We have a really bad damage to one corner of our SIG, it is almost completely ripped off. Some serious wind in France last year. It is going to take some mending. I have never thought of using duct tape and wondered how it behaves if it gets damp / wet. Will it still hold? I would have to use an awful lot of bicycle repair kits so I think that idea is out.
Duct tape holds well, we've used it. There's also tenacious tape that is clear so less obvious.
Thinking on, maybe you could sew the rip and then seam seal it both sides? Or you could use airbed patches? Just a thought though, not tried and tested!
How about buying a footprint groundsheet? We have a big rip in ours and I was thinking of a footprint to at least help keep the weather out. Our tear is not in the corner though.....

The sig is on a 35 year old ridge tent and it is made from the kind of material you get in frame tents. Not sure it lends itself to sewing. How do I "seam seal"? Would that be with a glue or what? Also is tentatious tape waterproof?
Seam sealant is a glue like substance that you can buy from any tent retailers. You paint it on both sides, but I think you would need some sort of patch on it first. I don't know what material a frame tent SIG is made of, but tenacious tape is waterproof.
hi your tent sound like a relum gaint pearl had one many years ago i .it has clears lugs on the outside to peg it out . its a heavy pvc ground sheet i would use seam grip to repair it ..and then duck tape to add strenght ....... hope it helps it worked for us
Hi latecamper,
Follow Bernie 47 advice for your repair I have used the tape for small repairs depending how big your repair is you may require more than one roll, but You could go for the adhesive and tape repair for a permanent job, and the repair wont stand out,
If you go the other way the best Duct tape in my opinion is the gorilla tape check it out on the web, it really does stick.

Rex.

Havent tracked down the tenacious tape yet. Is it only avaliable online. Looked at the Gorilla tape and that looks good too. Might get some of both in case of more disasters.
