I am planning on buying some cooking equipment to use when camping but I will be carrying it so weight and compactability need to be considered. At D of E we use trangias with a gas convertor but if i bought a trangia and then a gas convertor it is over £70. So I was wondering whether it is best to buy a trangia and just use it with the meth burner or to buy a gas burner with a pot set. Gas doesn't seem to be as widely available as meths but I was not planning on going anywhere mega remote although without a car it is more difficult to get to shops etc. Also which size trangia would you recommend for 2 people, the 25/27 series? its just that the 27 series looks tiny for 2 people! I would be greatful for some advice. Thank
Hi Zebra1905, I've used a Trangia with meths for years, started with D of E, now use it family camping with the kids, I love it, the stove is really stable, ideal for windy pitches and I feel it's safer with little ones around. I've never really fancied the gas, with the Trangia or a normal gas stove. All the hardware stores seem to stock meths, so it should not be a problem.
As for the size to chose, it depends on if you like a large meal or not.
Some folk are happy with the 27 for two, some need the larger 25. Go Outdoors have a good offer on the 25/8 at the moment,
DuoSSal pots and pan and kettle.
They don't make the DuoSSal pots any more, they've been replaced with Ultralight Hard Anodised ones.
larryg, curious about your signature "All who wander are not lost...", is it from Tolkien?
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
sorry to hijack the topic
