I was looking at the Maplins satellite system as a lot of people say they have trouble getting a good reception on there tvs and satellite is easy to setup and use and the quality is perfect.
I know a lot of people don’t like tvs in tents but when its raining you need to entertain the kids. Plus I like watching the tv at night myself.
Thanks and all the best
Mathew

Hi Mat, sorry can't comment on the satalite system, but we have never experienced reception problems with our dual voltage tv (mind you the ariel does extend to about 4ft!) I agree with you about needing something to do on rainy days, also OH needs to keep up with Emmerdale, Eastenders etc blah blah blah...

This is a contentious issue, if you do use a TV can I recommend headphones as tents are not soundproofed and others may not appreciate your choice of viewing.
Now the Maplins sat works well when it gets a clear signal, buildings and trees and caravans can be a problem. Setting up is easy but would recommend a sat finder to locate signal.
Mathew, I agree with you there are times a TV can come in handy, I rarely take mine though sometimes when I do I just use it for watching the odd DVD. I bought a sat dish for this season so I am just away to play around with it later today. I wont always take it but for the longer hols then it will become handy to have. Anyway camping is mainly about ones feeedom and making your own choices so if a TV is what you want then thats not a problem. Heaphones does sound like a good idea but to be honest I have nevre been disturbed by anyone's TV on site.
There's more to life than telly, but tell some people & they just won't believe you Unlike Bolan, I have been disturbed by morons who think polyester is soundproof.
But each to their own: if TV watchers do wish to use headphones then it can't hurt. My objection is to the noise pollution not the screen so as an official Grumpy Old Man I also get worked up by campers who widh to share their music collection with me from halfway down the site.
Lidls have a sat system in store now for £65, we only use a telly, I think we need to invest in a better ariel to get freeview which is built into the tv can anyone recommend a discreet one rather than one that needs a pole external to the tent.

That will be the same moron hikers then, who spent from 12 to 2am entertaining all with their exrtemely loud and drunken foul mouthed stories last night, no TV just loud foul mouths.
Not ALL campers with tv's are Morons and not ALL sensible campers are sensible.
I don't know about TV but what about snoring, now this can be loud... I hope the fish that choose to use bicycles do so using a helmet...
Noise pollution is not a nice thing but it is not all down to TV's it comes in all shapes and sizes and gets even worse when we get all worked up about it.
I try not to let noise bother me too much as my sleep paterns tend to be different when I am camping (Very Light, on off etc.) but I am always refreshed and ready for the next day. Still I have not yet came accross noise that bothers me, a loud TV into the early hours might......
I must be lucky when we are away, the closest we came to loud noise was last year when a group of women without their partners were having a laugh until the wee hours, no harm although we were further away from than than some others, there were about a dozen of them in 3 or 4 caravans, they got slighty louder as they drank but it was funny listening to them trying to quiet things down. I feel asleep but enjoyed watching them the next day as they were supporting major hangovers and had to pack up...
