Although we do set up with wind breaks around our camp, we are always very considerate to our fellow campers. No chavs here. Sorry if I seemed over sensitive about the ball thing but it is a real pet hate of mine. I know what you mean though, there are a lot of people who are not thoughtful. If only they were. Our tent was hit so many times last year leaving muddy marks on the canvas. Very annoying. When the car was dented it was time for the wind breaks! and they certainly helped.
Back to the windbreak thing, I found it was great for my toddler who had an element of freedom but was prevented from running wild around the camp. They are also great for shelter especially when cooking and eating. However, I also love my EHU. I run a fridge, light and heater off mine. Which would I go for? EHU definately.
i got a couple of stripey windbreaks from b&m stores (used to be Glynn Webbs) for £3.99 each and they just do the job of a)giving us a bit more privacy and less wind when we have the awning up on the tent, b) screening our toilet tent, c) sheilding our gas stoves from the wind and d) keeping our dogs in! don't think i would ever bother with a proper tent one. get a couple of these and you can prob still get your ehu
Hi all
In my opinion, All campers differ in what makes life on site better. Whatever you use a windbreaker for is right. If large family groups feel better surrounded by a wall of Windbreakers, fine. They will probably be pitched close to each other there for leaving more room for others, If you feel the need to sit and eat alfresco in private, Fine, if it keeps a young child or pet safe, fine. I can never understand why campers complain about what other campers do, when no rules are been broken But we must live and let live.
The windbreaker is a very useful camping Item with many uses, and is one accessory on site they do not charge for.

How right you are Rex, doesn't mean we can't discuss each others opinions though - that's part of what a forum is all about........and I've read a few of yours over the past couple of years!!
Sorry to anyone (esp. san321) if I sounded aggressive

Well we just bought outselves one of the post metal pole ones and although i have yet to try it, the fact that it does not hammer into the ground does worry me somewhat... however.. I have seen many of these things withstand quite a battering before now on sites so I guess its a case of try it and see.
We have two striped ones, one is a 4 pole small thing - great for the beach, the other a much stronger one which has 6 poles. We tend to use ours to help with cooking but to be honest it is to allow us to keep Jay, our German Shepherd out side the tent without everyone other person coming over to him to stroke him... he a friendly thing and tends to attract everyone over.. which is cool on the whole.. but not every 5 minutes.. gosh I sound anti social now...
I have yet to decide if we are taking all three with us to Devon.. mmmm
Have just replaced 6 pole stripey windbreak with 20 foot 10 pole one for £15 +p&p from Ebay. Brill value. plenty more.
Use it purely for shielding cooker and breaking wind (as it were). One of the joys of camping is to get comfy with a bottle of wine and people-watch - can't do that from behind a wall.
Have a strong view that there are plenty of guys to trip over with just the tent - having to peg out these fancy windbreaks makes it worse. Hammer them in I say.
Invested in a long one because experienced some bitterly cold breezes last year - even in summer!

We have just bought a new one and it does gives us a bit more privacy around the tent. Also is does help with the cooking when windy. Also good for sun bathing (when you dont want everyone to see your wobbly bits) I think there worth it
Have a stripey windbreak from Asda that keeps the wind off the barbecue and used one of the fancy Vango jobbies (£12.99 from T.K.Maxx) to make a smallish square. Over the top, using the metal spikes, I placed a cheap tarp which I guyed out in a couple of places and had a servicable "larder" where I kept the canteen equipment!
Worked a treat even this weekend. Quite pleased with meself
We use our windbreak when it is very windy and we want to enjoy being outdoors and especially when someone else comes in and pitches only 2 feet from my guys. We have the outwell one that doesn't really match our tent, but I don't care.
We bought 2 of the stripey ones, don't know how many poles but a lot. We used to more or less barricade ourselves in but being nosey by nature we stopped doing that cos i couldn't see what was going on around me.
These days we take one with us, we make an "L" shape with it and all the kitchen stuff goes behind it, screened off from the wind and it also means i can hide my mess behind it.
We have two which we use across the front and partially along the sides of the awning, overlapped in the centre to make a 'doorway'. Mainly so our dogs can wander about within the confines of our pitch without being constantly on a lead.
