I'm in the same boat.  Just got myself a tent and taking girls with me (8 and 6) for the half term at the end of May.  Nervous - but i know we'll be fine.  I've decided to go to a site that I'm familar with - albeit I stayed in a static van there!  Still, I did a dry run with the tent yesterday (Ontario 6) and managed that with limited assistance and just hoping for good weather by the end of the month.  Let us know what you do, where you go and how it went.  I'm sure you'll be fine!  Single Mum's can do, and married mums without hubby's can do too!

Good luck!

I have always gone camping with my 2 girls & without OH. Tried long time ago to make it all of us but OH not really the camping type!!
In the end I just thought I'm not waiting all this time waiting.. so I went myself & have done ever since.
the girls have always helped put up the tent but like you I made sure when they were little that I it was small enough to put up myself.
It was less stressful without him as he is the one that moans & the girls just get on with it all!!!
They are now 12 & 15 & they still love camping as do I!!

Glad you're going for it... it'll be the best thing you'll ever have done! Very liberating!!!

Glad to hear so many stories of women going it alone . [:)
My oh not a keen camper.

I often go alone with kids, even borrow other peoples kids! As they get older help from the kids is great though.

We also go as group of women in the school holidays, started with 3 of us, now up to a maximum of 8 families coming and going on different days, the highlight of the school holidays!

I'm just back from  four nights away with no Hubby around for two of them. They were definately the better two nights...Hubby and I do tend to run at completely different paces on site and it really showed this weekend. The chores were done first thing and the kids and I had gone out by 9am..if Hubby had been there he'd still have been struggling to conciousness via a third cuppa! My kids like to be back on site by mid afternoon to play and this suits me...I'm getting tired by then and I like a sit down, plus leisurely meal prep. Hubby sometimes isn't ready to go out till after lunch. Etc.

This year Hubby goes home two weeks into our big French trip and I'll be on my own with just the kids for nearly three weeks. Apart from being a tad concerned as to what would happen if I or a kid got ill/had an accident I'm really looking forwards to this bit. The kids and I are going to do all the things that Hubby hates...tacky theme parks with endless bouncy castles, animal parks and days on the beach. And far too much pizza, I expect! We'll do the big cycle runs and snorkling whern Hubby comes back out for the last week. We're just going to stay put on a site with good facilities, which might get a bit boring after two weeks, but I'm going for as stressless as possible. If this works for us then we'll organise a more ambitious moving on holiday next year, once son is tall enough to help me put up the TT.

You can always manage with a far smaller tent if there's no man in it, btw. They seem to take up a heck of a lot of space, don't they?

I too go alot without hubby (also prefer it but dont tell him that!)  I usually take two of the dogs my son and step daughter (shes 18 and doesnt live with us) or my son and one of his friends.  We have a great time and to be honest the kids are far better at helping me put the tents up than hubby is!

Another vote for something you can wee in in the night. I've been away a couple of times with my 5 & 3 year old DDs and will definitely do it again this year.

Go for it - it gives you such a sense of independance. Let us know how you get on.

My OH doesn't camp.  The last 3 years I have taken the girls now aged 12 and 7 camping at least twice.  We love it.  They cant wait to go this year.  It's GIRL time and almost completely stress free!  My oldest is now tall enough to help me put a decent sized tent up so we feel WELL SMUG in our Scenic 5.0.  Go for it. Camping is FAB.
