Hi jac.e . Sorry to hear of your loss. good for you wanting to carry on camping without your husband. It will help you plan for the future if you have something to look forward to.

I would suggest a tunnel tent is the easiest to put up and no problem getting a big tent if you have a 16 year old to help. Have a look at the kestrel appreciation thread, that's one that I have just bought and its an easy one to put up. I also have the nevada xl, another thread on the tent info section page  about that one too.

Good luck with your driving too

Just like to say Hi and good for you getting out and about!!  We have the Khaym Santiago 6 birth tent and I have managed to pitch it on my own. Also the bedrooms are at the opposite ends so you do get a bit of privacy.  Its not too big for me, oh and two kids.

You message has really touched me, and I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss and my heart goes out to you and your children.  But is it good to see you having the strength to carry on with life and doing this for your children

Good luck with the driving.  My sister-in-law was never interested in driving, but sadly my brother died quite young and they had a 12 year old disabled daughter so she had to learn to drive.  It wasn't easy but she passed her test first time!  Has now been driving for 10 years.

With regards to tent, do you know how many bedroom pods you are thinking of?  Do you prefer a sewn-in groundsheet?  Do you have a budget?  I'm sure someone on here will be able to help you choose the right one for you.

I too lost my husband in December and have decided to buy a tent and go it alone with just the dog for company. Not sure how it will work out yet as I have never camped under canvas before - always had caravan or camper van but not confident to tow on my own.

Bought an Outwell Kansas 5 early this year and have practised in the garden but looking forward to the real thing and thanks to this super website have picked up so many useful tips as I was a bit nervous about going it alone, especially as I am a senior citizen!

Keep looking at the meets and solo meets section. Doesn't matter if your solo or not the great people on here will welcome you with open arms and you will not be alone
