About to take our two year old on his first camping trip in two weeks. We've bought him a kids airbed with sides (bit like a paddling pool) so he can't fall out of bed. But stumped as to how to keep him warm at night? He's too active when he's asleep to put in a sleeping bag (and maybe not old enough) - any advice, anyone please?
------------- Canvas - paint on it or sleep under it....
hi, my daughter is nearly 2, i managed to get a grobag with sleeves in from verbadet, alternatively she wears a vest a normal baby gro ( i only keep these for camping now as she doesnt wear them at home anymore) then a fleecy baby gro on top, and once she is a sleep i put a blanket over her and tuck it under the airbed, i usually wake up more than her worried if she is warm enough, when i check her she is toasty warm

our daughter has had a ready bed since she was 2 and never had a problem infact she was safer in that as she is a lively sleeper she kicks tosses and turns, shouts, laughs in her sleep it's only recently [she's now 5] we could take the safety barrier off her bed as she's known to sleep her feet on the floor and her head stiil on the bed or she's got her feet halfway up the wall and her head hanging out the side of the bed. But when she sleeps in her ready bed there's n o way of her falling out and she has a hot water bottle [not too hot] with a cover and a fleece blanket wrapped round her
A fleecy all in one over his pjs, and an opened out square end sleeping bag or duvet on top of the airbed, to keep the airbed warm underneath him . His usual bedding from home, his duvet or blankets should be warm enough, if he's that active he's probably a warm kid anyway.
Mine was exactly the same, he's 9 now and still falls out of bed, he moves around so much, and never has any covers left on him after the first half hour, he kicks eveything off. He's never woken up cold camping, and he's camped since 4 months old.
I found that those cheap fleecy pram blankets were the best for Alice. She has always been a horror for kicking the covers off, and these were easy to recover her with. I even bought one of those sleeping bags that zip from top to bottom - didn't take her long to discover how to unzip it. I invested in two ready beds - but she would get her legs out, no matter how many times I put them back in. Now when she is on top of the sleeping bag I just throw a couple of blankets over her and hope for the best.
our little one where's vest, socks, fleecy sleep suits and now has a sleeping bag as we forgot the growbag on the last trip (but that was great) - sleeps on a thermorest type thing and then we shove lots of blankets over...another top tip from a friend is wear a hat..he seems to stay warm enough - however the older one goes to be in pjs socks trakkie bottoms and a jumper, 4 season sleeping bag and blankets and that is the only way he is warm enough !! :-)
i have read lots of people say put a hat on babies/toddlers at night to keep them warm
but babies should never sleep with a hat on as you lose most of you body heat through your head, the head also controls the body temp, if you have a hat on it gets confused and baby could overheat

Our 2 year old has a ready bed for camping and sleeps in vest, PJ's fleecy all in one and in a Vango childrens sleeping bag in the bed. I tuck the sleeping bag under her feet so that she doesn't slide down and she is toasty warm.
All the above... and i find metalic roll mats (silver side up) to refect body heat back, are brilliant, they are £1 in the pound shop and about £7 in camp shops, well worth it and makes a big difference IMO
