Hello everyone, I was hoping you might be able to give me some advice about buy a nice spacious tent for an upcoming festival this year.

In the past i've bought cheap 'n nasty throwaways, which were small, horrible to construct and live in for a week.

This year i'm treating myself and am willing to for up to £100 on a spacious tent for just me, I'm thinking of perhaps a 4-man one? Lots of room for my stuff and to live in.

I've been looking and I just can't get a good idea of what I want, i've seen the Gelert range, and I like the idea of putting a tent up quickly, but was worried they might be flimsy and have wind ripping through them?

The ones that came to mind were

Gelert Quickpitch DS 4

Gelert Twister 5

thanking you in advance.

Baragain here' This one is always recommended as a good quality , quick solo pitch with standing height. never seen it so low priced before. I think its being replaced by the vango tamor.

You could get the quechua base tent which is a pop tent and get the additional bedroom pod thingy that you clip inside.  Gives you standing height and the benefit of a few seconds to setup and packdown.

http://seconds.quechua.com/

Not actually seen one of these in the flesh but a fair few people on this website use the quechua tents for quick trips and some have just purchased the base unit as well.

Good luck choosing

Justin

Oh yes, The Venture could take you anywhere and it's dirt cheap at that price. Easy to put up too. Grabbit and run!

Do you need to factor in carrying your tent plus all your kit across a festival field? If so, don't forget to look at the weight of any tents you shortlist eg the Vango Venture is three kilos heavier than the Twister 5. There are other advantages and disadvantages to both those tents that need to be taken account of, but weight might well be one of them. MT

The problem with the quechua tents is carrying them. I watched lots of people looking like tortoises with one of those discs on their backs at Glastonbury last year. I think struggling with the tent and a rucksac maybe too much. Not to mention the wheelbarrow of beer cans!
I have a small tent bought from Lidl a few years ago for festivals. This year will be its 6th Glastonbury.

I would camp lite at a festival, you've got to carry your stuff a long way, you're there to enjoy the music etc, and there's plenty of food options. After taking the full works to WOMAD last year, I've learnt my lesson. This time we're taking small tent, trangia for porridge, tea and low-key fry-ups, and not a lot else. (Well that's the theory - will I have the self-discipline and strength of mind when I come to pack - to leave all my nice camping furniture, gizmos and gadgets behind?!)
