Hope someone can give us some advice. Having spent many years camping with our parents, we have just bought a montana 6 for our first camping trip with our own children.

The tent has a sewn in ground sheet but we were wondering how strong these are. We have director's style chairs with metal legs and wondered if we needed to protect the groundsheet with anything before we sat on them inside the tent?

Don't know if we are worrying unnecessarily but would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

You can now buy camping carpets but we always used foam sleeping mats.  They are usually available in pound shops costing ... £1.

They keep your feet nice and warm as well. lol

Welcome to UKCampsite by the way.

I've got the Monty 6 but bought the carpet as well.  We tend to start camping early in the year and enjoy the extra warmth.  Also, it's easier to take out and shake every now and then.

Hi welcome Yorkshirelass.
I would recommend you buy some sort of carpet or rugs to protect your expensive SIG.
Check out Breathable Groundsheets.co.uk they stock just about every groundsheet and carpet made, and have clearance corner were you can pick up smaller sizes at bargain prices.
I would also recommend you buy a footprint ground sheet for under you SIG.
Visit the pondkeeper site and check out the flexiliner this will make the strongest foot print you could buy at a reasonable price, and can be cut to any shape without tearing or fraying
Hope that may help
Regards
Rex.

If you check out the angling sites you'll find something called 'mud feet'. They are wide (usually circular) rubber feet that fit on the end of the individual chair legs. Of course they were originally designed to stop anglers chairs sinking into the mud on a riverbank but are just as good for spreading the weight of chair legs on a groundsheet. I always take mine.

We have a Montana 12 and dont have any carpet down and the chairs haven't broken the SIG over the last year.
Do have a footprint groundsheet underneath though.

Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone for their help and advice. Think we will go for the footprint and some rugs for now. Might invest in a carpet when I have tought our muddy labrador to wipe his feet!
