People either love camping or hate it - that much is true but if we were asked

"What is the one thing that makes it special?"

 What would we say?

For me - Freedom

Goed middag Karin

Meeting up with friends from all over the UK that I don't get to see very often, in a relaxed atmosphere.

The friendliness of a campsite.  When we've hired cottages etc, we have been quite isolated whereas on a campsite we get to chat with the people around.

Spending time with loved ones away from the TV, the phone, the computer, homework, work, study, the trappings of home I suppose.  Also travelling and  learning new things from a variety of interesting places.

I especially like to go camping because it does not give me that claustrophobic and restless bored feeling that I feel in a hotel or guest house and people are generally happy, chatty and friendly.

Being able to boot the kids out and know that they're (reasonably) safe and happy getting filthy and climbing trees, so I can sit back with a book and a cuppa outside the tent. You can't do that for a day in a hi-rise hotel!
