Hi All, 1st post in here. I am looking for a larger tent to house family of 5 plus occassional friend and visitors. I like space so am looking for a big tent. Prefer sewn in ground sheet and pitch outer first. I have ruled out big domes as the footprint is just too large so fancy a big tunnel. After looking for a couple of months the two main contenders are the Outwell Monty 12 and the Ridgeline Hurricane Tunnel 12. Outwell plusses are well known and made and they have small door for Ehu.

Plusses for the Ridgeline are great bedroom layout and more versatile than Outwell. Great headheight but no Ehu access.I have never heard of Ridgeline before and cannot find much information.   http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5232-2978-1/1?AID=9479574&PID=1428744&mpre=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D190224828014&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching    Would be very interested in your thoughts on tent/company/my/choice even if it is Ooh that looks great/horrible.

Cheers,

Lee.

Hi Lee

Welcome to the site

My gut instinct is go for Outwell.  At least you can go to a shop and see one before purchasing, if not the exact model, then one very similar.  I'd be really cautious about buying something this expensive without seeing one first and it seem the only seller of Ridgeline is on eBay and located in Skipton ... miles from you.

Take a look at these links.  Scandika are the same company as Ridgeline (according to one of the threads)

Atherwitzend, Thank you very much for your reply and advice. That was a lot of reading  .It would seem that others have come to the same conclusion. The outwell is expensive. There is a camping shop along the A22 with big displays so I might pop down this weekend and have a look. It would seem that most seasoned campers agree with you and advise the Outwell, however I followed a thread on here earlier in the week that discussed a lot of problems with the metal poles on recent Outwell models which made me a little nervous.

Thanks again,

Lee.

I can't find a HH figure for the Ridgeline, while the Monty is very good at 5000mm

Ebay ad says "totally waterproof" which is patently inaccurate.

I would hate to shell out good money to find you've only got 1500mm or so
