Hi Everyone, my first post :)
Got back today after my first time camping (I'm not counting the 3 day trip when I was 11 with the school) ;)
I am hooked, we (hubby Daggers) and myself took the opportunity while the kids were with family for a few days to head off to North Norfolk and we stayed on Manor Farm just outside of Cromer (lovely site).
I went packed with what I thought was half of my house and too many 'just incase things', good job the kids were not with us this first time because I don't know how we would have all fitted in the car lol.
I did learn a few things that may help other first time campers though, that I know I will do or not to next time.
1. I took us a few pairs of jeans each... big mistake because the first pair I wore were too big and there was nearly a full moon at midday when I ran for the toilet lol and the second pair I changed into that day got soaked on the wet grass and took days to dry. Next time its lightweight or 3 quarter length for me ;)
2. I took way to much food, we had a Morrison’s a short walk away which would have saved more room in the car.
3. We did not find much tourist information for the local area so I wish I had dome a little more surfing before hand to see what was about and to maybe even print a map of the local area and public footpaths.
4. Label my icepacks, as there seemed to be a free for all and I had to check they were there every hour or two as the last lot had gone!
5. A flask is a good thing to take. When we boiled a kettle of water for coffee & tea any hot water left we put into the flask, that way it stays hot and saves your gas for another cuppa or putting it back in the kettle it takes half the time to boil up again ;)
I suppose you realise as you go on with camping in a tent the things you do and don't need. I am looking forward to our next trip out with the tent and hopefully the car will be a little lighter ;)
