Hi Everyone, my first post :)

Got back today after my first time camping (I'm not counting the 3 day trip when I was 11 with the school) ;)

I am hooked, we (hubby Daggers) and myself took the opportunity while the kids were with family for a few days to head off to North Norfolk and we stayed on Manor Farm just outside of Cromer (lovely site).

I went packed with what I thought was half of my house and too many 'just incase things', good job the kids were not with us this first time because I don't know how we would have all fitted in the car lol.

I did learn a few things that may help other first time campers though, that I know I will do or not to next time.

1. I took us a few pairs of jeans each... big mistake because the first pair I wore were too big and there was nearly a full moon at midday when I ran for the toilet lol and the second pair I changed into that day got soaked on the wet grass and took days to dry. Next time its lightweight or 3 quarter length for me ;)

2. I took way to much food, we had a Morrison’s a short walk away which would have saved more room in the car.

3. We did not find much tourist information for the local area so I wish I had dome a little more surfing before hand to see what was about and to maybe even print a map of the local area and public footpaths.

4. Label my icepacks, as there seemed to be a free for all and I had to check they were there every hour or two as the last lot had gone!

5. A flask is a good thing to take. When we boiled a kettle of water for coffee & tea any hot water left we put into the flask, that way it stays hot and saves your gas for another cuppa or putting it back in the kettle it takes half the time to boil up again ;)

I suppose you realise as you go on with camping in a tent the things you do and don't need. I am looking forward to our next trip out with the tent and hopefully the car will be a little lighter ;)

Rosey

Hi Rosey,

It is easy to think of things that can be left at home to make more space in the car but it is even easier to think of things to fill the newly found space

We bought a new tent and all the stuff we thought that we would need and off we went with car loaded with camping stuff, clothes food etc ...

Had a great time but decided there were things we really didnt need...

Freed up lots of space then got more camping stuff...

Someone needs to ban me from camping stores lol

Glad you had a great time though

Karin

hi rosey

welcome to the site, glad you enjoyed your first trip

believe me your car will only get heavier, then you will add a trailer or a top box, and still wont have enough room

happy camping

Thanks for the welcome :)

while we were away we had a trip to Argos and got a new pan and a kitchen unit with shelves so we ended up coming home with even more than we left with in the end lol

Although our kids are getting older now I just can't get out of the habbit of packing for every eventuality lol

:)

Welcome to the site, glad you enjoyed your first camping trip. Believe me you will be amazed at all the "must haves" you will come across, especially on this site. The car just wont be big enough, lol ;o)

Hi Rosey
Welcome to the forum.
Camping is the holiday that you do what you want, at your time, You take as much or as little as you want, and just because your camping does not mean you have to live liken a refugee think of the comfort those Arab sheiks live in their tents always buy tables with adjustable legs as there is no such thing as a level field.
All the Best.
Rex.
PS Thanks for the tip about keeping the hot water to save time boiling it again.

Hello Rosey,

Glad that you enjoyed your first expedition!, we have been camping for years now you just can't beat it

I'm the only camper at work, and they all cannot understand why I enjoy it,  I just say "you don't know what you are missing", still the less who don't go leaves plenty of room for the one's who do!

Hope you have many years happy camping to come.

Keith

Hi and welcome to the site.  Glad the first trip went well

We have walking/trekking trousers for camping.  Lighweight, reasonably creasefree and quick drying if they do get wet.  Often zip-off legs too if it gets hot. Look out for sales at outdoor stores or try outlet villages.  We are lucky enough to have a Mountain Warehouse outlet near us and they do excellent clearance rails from time to time, last 2 pairs I got were RRP £49, usually sold in store for £24 .... bargain at £7 a pair.

3/4 length trousers are great for camping, together with 'croc' type shoes, especially for early morning trips to loo!

Freeport Fleetwood - there is also a Craghoppers shop, a Regatta shop and a Tresspass shop all selling outdoors stuff.

Cheers
