Thanks for all the responses. 3-4 weeks doesn't sound too bad especially if it was replaced so fingers crossed that will be the same for us.

Well I took it back today and it was really good news. The owner had spoken to the Rep and they had agreed to a replacement without testing. I then asked whether they would consider letting us have an upgrade to the Norfolk Lake. I've wanted one for ages but our old car didn't have the space or power to cope which is why we bought the Vermont and ironically we have just bought a new bigger car this morning! They agreed so we now have to wait just a couple of weeks for delivery and we will have a lovely new Norfolk Lake.

Thanks for all the responses and advice but fortunately I'm not going to need to go down the consumer rights path after all. I don't know whether he was in a bad mood when we spoke on tuesday or if its just his way on the phone but today in person he was friendly and helpful so I'm happy.
