Was this the Camping & Caravan site - if so we're staying there in August. Glad to hear you had a good weekend, we were at Kelling Heath, quite cold on the Saturday during the day but the evening was lovely. It was very quiet on site, I was expecting it to be busy but was glad it wasn't.
Yes it was. The new toilet block had no hot water at the weekend, but they did have workmen there. There was lots of kids there but they was well behaved and no problem, great play area for them.
The shop is very small but has all the basics and they ask if you want a paper in the morning.
The forest is beautiful and very big. A word of advice, if you are going for a walk in the forest let the reception know. We never and ended up in trouble, night came in quick and we had taken a wrong turn. Ended up extremely lost in the forest at night for over 5 hours. Just when we thought that we would have to dial 999 we came to a small group of houses. One still had lights on (11.30pm) so I knocked and begged for a cab back to the campsite.
The lovely family was great, even if they couldn't take the grin off their faces
That sounds awful! but you wouldn't beleive it, the same thing happened to us. We stayed at the same site and asked the reception where the nearest pub was. The lady wasn't very helpful and kept on getting her lefts and rights muddled. So we set off trying to rememeber what she had told us, but after walking for an hour we ended up at the military firing range! We decided to go back and take the car as the road to the pub is very straight forward.
As for the area thetford forest is a great place to camp it's just a shame about the site I don't think the C&CC sites are my cup of tea.
