Hi there,

we had many (uncomfortable sea sick nights) on an air bed, So after the sea sickness and midnight inflation experiences we decided to try a self inflating mat.

We went to go outdoors where they had them all inflated. So we had a good lay on them we went for the Outwell double which is 5cm thick and and I would not go back to an airbed.

as for storage - i can't see why you cant roll and deflate them, the outwells come with compression straps to help you deflate (but once you have the know it is easy)

Naomi - how much can YOU fit into a zaffira and a roof box.

Hi all.
By far the most comfortable way to sleep in a tent is on a
carp anglers bed chair if you have room to take them and you don't mind not having the other half in bed all night with you then I recommend you Google [fishingwarehouseshop]
and down the left hand side click {chairs and Bedchairs}
not the cheapest way to sleep in a tent but the warmest and definitely the most comfortable. We use two JCR Terry Hearn cocoon 3 leg because they go to the height of a normal bed as I cannot get off an inflatable. And each leg is adjustable so you are always level even on a steepish slope,
Regards
Rex.
PS and they make the ulimate sun bed if you like the sun.

I'm a wuss with a bad back and a very tall husband. From initial investigation the air beds were too short.  I'd also heard reports that some people suffered motion sickness on them!?!  (may have dreamt that one!) We have an outwell XL camp bed each (far too big but extremely comfy) with a self inflating mattresses on top, a sheet, then our bags.  We get an extremely good nights sleep, but the drawback is we can't snuggle up and the beds need a huge area (both in the tent and in the car).  Another plus point is there is a huge storage space under the beds to store stuff.  We tried sleeping on the mats on the ground, but I kept finding I'd wiggled off the SI mat and was sleeping on the ground sheet and was consequently cold (brr).

We use two Argos camp beds (the square framed type) lashed together with tie wraps. A Colman double comfort mattress goes on top. This gives a warm bed with plenty of storage underneath. With the high bdrooms in the Monty 6 we find this arrangement ideal.

Steve & Sheila

We sleep on Argos readybeds, have done so for past 4 years and still going strong,We use Ikea fleece blankets for the colder nights and always have picnic rugs underneath, nearly forgot the infatable pillows for that extra touch of comfort. We did say that when they give up the ghost we would still use airbeds for the comfort. I have never had a problem with them deflating either,so maybe we are just lucky lol !!

We use either Fat Airics or Aerobed Active.  Both very comfortable although I like the longer Fat Airic over the airbed I feel the comfort of the Aerobed but you notice the cold air inside a bit easier.  Normally on the fat airics dont wear a t shirt at night and am perfectly comfortable on the aerobed I felt the urge to put a tea shirt on just to take away some of the minor chill that was felt from the airbed.  Oh and the fact my feet hang off the end is the only other downside.

Both have pro's and cons.  At the moment the aerobed is my new favorite as we just got it but that might all change in the next 6 months.

Seems to be a common thread this year (and of course the wee problem!).  Have used airbed for years but such a bother to blow up and last year we had to top up every night just before we went to bed.  Self inflating mattresses sound great, but hubby has hip problems and not sure if they would be comfortable enough.  Does anyone know of somewhere in Dorset they have them out to try?  It seems quite a lot of money to spend without seeing or trying them out first.

Thanks.

We got an electic pump for airbeds... not very big and it is fast. Less than a tenner and it rocks!

12V if you want to run it from the car or stick it in the transformer for the coolbox if you have one.

Angie.
