Hi there

Was just wonderong if anyone has any tips on pitching a tent on your own.

I have a Lichfield arapaho 6dlx which is quiet a large dome tent.  I am normally ok pitching on my own apart from getting the 2 main poles into an arch but going away this weekend without OH so any one got any ideas.

I know people are usually keen to help but would prefer not to rely on other people's kindness

Hi rnjonny, sorry I have no advice on this but I am in the same situation, I have just started camping and on my own, I have an Outwell Arizona dome tent.

On my first trip I set the groundsheets up and put the poles in place and the lady from the site then gave me a hand to get the tent up into shape and I then pegged out. As this was my first attempt at putting the tent up I accepted the help and will not refuse any help offered in the future, however I would also like to know any tips in actually erecting the tent just incase there is no one else around.

I regularly go to the peaks and pitch on my own as the Mrs finishes work later.....then go back and pick her up.....my advice is not to have such a heavy tent. I can pitch my outwell but with a struggle. I pitched my vango easily on my own after dislocating a shoulder the week before in 30 mins

There are some excellent vids of a bloke pitching huge Outwells on his own on YouTube - type "yeoman outdoor". The guy is brill!

Might give you a few hints.

i am but a meek female!! i manage to pitch a lichfield commanche 6 by myself in under half an hour. if it looks 'not right' which mine has done on several occasions, i have pulled the whole lot apart and started again, lot easier! have never had any help, would probably stress more with someone else with me. the trick is to keep calm and have the can of beer on display for your 'reward'!  good luck!! debbie.

i usually find that the take your time approach and enjoy it (with a nice cold beer) is the best way, i find it easy on my own execpt for the creating of the dome (not so easy)

but keep trying it will come as long as you dont lose you temper or rush

p.s. DEB - i put togehter a 10ft trampoline last night for my daughters 4th birthday 2day started at 7 when she went to bed finished at 10:45pm

She has spent AT LEAST 2 mins on the bloody thing

Took me a few goes to find these videos, very helpful and worth the effort. I think the packing away video for the Montana 6 will help me with my Vermont L.

I have struggled to put up dome tents by myself and have had enough! I am considering the large pop up tents (base / base full) in Decathlon. You can link a couple together to have one as a bedroom and one as a living area, has anyone had any experience of them?

I am a lone camper so I am used to putting up a tent by myself, and that was one of the reasons I didn't buy a dome tent. I have a large tunnel tent (picture in profile)which I can easily put up, just taking my time and working methodically.

I know have bought a small frame tent, a Suncamp Gite, and I can put that up easier and quicker than the tunnel tents.

But like others have said, take your time and do accept any offers of help.

cccc, I have a Quechua from Decathlon and absolutely love it. I used it for the first time last week with my daughter. I also use a large fishing brolly as a shelter. It has zip on sides and is big enough to stand up under when we don't want to be cramped in the tent. I do like the look of the linking section from Decathlon which you can use between multiple tents.

BTW if you are intending to share with anyone, definitely go for the 3 second version - preferably the 3 second air.

There is something infinitely satisfying about throwing your tent in the air and having it land ready to occupy!
