This is tricky - there's the idea of not 'forcing' your beloved into something they don't want to do, but on the other hand there's the thought that you should put yourself out for your OH and their happiness. I have to confess I'm not the world's most natural camper, but we went together with anopther couple in 2004 and it wasn't that bad despite raining. Fast forward to May this year and I bought H/us a tent for his Birthday (my suggestion!) and we've just come home from our second weekend away, and busy looking for a week away in July sometime. The deciding factor for me was our little girl, and the fact that camping we can take several shorter breaks throughout the season rather than going for broke with one week somewhere further afield. Let's face it, at almost 3 she isn't going to remember much from a week whether we spend a few hundred or a few thousand (I wish!!!) and her list of priorities involves animals, sandcastles, jumping in puddles, ice-creams and tomato ketchup...you don't need to go half way round the world for that.
What kind of holiday does your OH usually enjoy, and has she tried camping before? The kind of site you go for might have a huge influence on her decision - my OH is currently trying to talk me into the idea of a 'Butlins' type site with kids club, pool, evening entertainment...my personal idea of Hell...but I'm willing to give it a go as it gives me Brownie points in the bank and means I'll get my way another time. Compromise is the key!
